Default Question re original Starmate

I have an original Starmate that I bought about a year and a half ago. It has been "freezing up" periodically, although when I reboot it then works fine for a little while. I found one that I can buy on eBay but am wary of doing this. But, I really like the Starmate. It fits perfectly on a little shelf in my Volvo, which I much prefer to the typical suction cup installation. My question is, if I buy a newer receiver, (e.g. Starmate Replay, Sportster Replay, etc, will I see improvements in sound quality? If so, I'd probably just buy one of these newer units. (Any recos?) If not, I'm perfectly happy with the old, basic Starmate and I'll probably just take my chances on eBay. Thanks.

I LOVE the original Starmate! But I haven't had any lockup problems with it. Maybe once in a blue moon it has frozen but so have any of the other radios and media players I've used. If you're using the FM transmitter in it, it's one of the best out there so you won't see much improvement with a newer receiver. If you direct-connect it somehow through aux jacks or even using the FM connector you might see an improvement in sound quality because of the newer codecs and circuitry. I'd get the newest Sportster 4 or Starmate Replay to have the latest technology then.

In the car I use a cassette adapter, at home a wire into an AUX jack on my receiver, and at work into the LINE IN jack on my computer. So I guess I'll give a new one a shot. Thanks for your help. BTW, Disorder is my favorite stream.

Would you also recommend the Sportster 4?
