Default Canadian FM transmitters same as US?

Hi, I'm new to Satellite radio and I've noticed a lot of US customers complaining about the very poor FM transmission on the newer radios due to FCC regulations. Just wondering if these restraints have carried over to Canada on these models or is the FM transmission better here? Specifically I'm wondering about the Sportster 4 and Starmate 4.

Thanks a lot!

Hmm 53 views and no replies.. I'll take a stab at it

I don't know for sure, I've never even seen a Canadian radio, but I'd be willing to bet the transmitters are the same on both sides of the border. It would be silly to have two different standards.

FWIW, the owner's manual for my new Stratus says "This Class B digital apparatus complies with Canadian ICES-003" (which I guess is the Canadian version of the FCC rules).

I'm guessing there is some sort of reciprocal deal with electronics and the owner's manuals that come with the new Canadian radios will probably say they have FCC part 15 acceptance.. If this is true and they have FCC acceptance, then they HAVE to be the same power.....

Default FM Transmission

I purchased a Sportster Replay 4 a couple of weeks ago in NS. The FM transmission sucks bigtime. I am currently using a separate FM transmitter plugged into "audio out" and it is far superior. Guess eventually I will hardwire it into my car radio (when and if I figure how to get at the back of the radio without completely ripping the dash apart).

I can say for certain they are the same.

It would cause more than a big hassle if the ones in Canada were superior. For one people wouldn't buy from the retailers in the US and it would cause unecessary confusion.

Lots of the newer radios now are coming with an FEA piece which attaches to the window nearest your vehicles FM Antenna. It is an easy solution for those that want to listen with less interference but don't want to install any other method.

The Sirius InV radio comes with the FEA piece included. It is essentially a remote FM-OUT antenna that you place on the windshield nearest your car antenna).(

If you download the Sirius InV PDF owner's manual and look on pages 16 - 21 you'll see what it is and how to install it..

I just bought two old SVC1's from the source at Square One for $24.95. One as a gift one as backup.
