Default Universal car dock stability?

I am growing increasingly impatient and angry about the lack of a car kit. Was doing some thinking this evening and might get the universal (ala Sportster 4) car dock for my Stiletto. Then I will eBay it once I get the correct dock.

2 quick questions:

Stability. I have heard that the home dock (universal) is iffy b/c the pins can break easily. Is the same true with the car dock? Can you use the dock with the battery inserted, or do you have to remove it like with the home dock?

Voltage. I assume the voltage that is output by the universal dock is adequate for the Stiletto (power & battery needs)?

The Universal Home Dock works. But most of the features of the dock don't. First you have to remove the battery. Some people say You can force fit it with the Slim battery installed, or use a Dremel tool to GRIND part of the home dock away.

I use it with no battery. OK no battery it starts up slowly. Then There is the issue of no Remote. Once it powers up, it is awkward to press the buttons and use the thumb wheel while standing vertical in the home dock.

Finally now the connection must go through the audio cable. The FM Modulator does not work.

As far as being fragile, it is most fragile while putting or sliding it onto the connector. If you are careful to align the power plug and don't force it, it slides on smoothly then goes down enough to make a solid connection.

The issue is there are no allignment pins like on the S50 to get it lined up. From the grooves on the Stiletto, it looks like the Stiletto docks will use the two outside grooves to align with the unit.

I think the problem is those people who try to leave the battery on and then push the stiletto on, I can see it forcing the pins and breaking off.

The Antenna, Audio and Power connectors all use the same as the S50. I just unplugged all my connnectors from my S50 home dock and they all fit and plugged them into the universal dock. The voltage is 5 Volts, and the polarity and size of connector are the same.

One final awkward issue is it stands straight up. On the S50, it is tilted back making it easier to read. In the universal dock, the way it stands, it is harder to read.

Hope this answers all your questions.

I know I posted this picture before, but here it is again.

Rubin:

It looks as if you are planning on returning the dock when the real Stiletto docks come out. Is that why you're leaving the plastic on it? hahahahah

Well after it did not fit, when the salesman said it would and then finding out that the FM Modulator did not work, I was not satisfied. I planned on using this for my office as it was a cheaper alternative than the home dock I have on order. But being that I am not a satisfied best buy customer, I may return it.
