SIRIUS Satellite Radio Celebrates The Life Of James Brown

SIRIUS Satellite Radio will celebrate the life and music of James Brown as the first anniversary of his passing approaches. SIRIUS’ Soul Town channel will feature James Brown songs and interview clips hourly throughout the day on December 22 beginning at 1 pm ET on channel 53. On December 23, beginning at 12 pm ET, the channel will also play listener comments on the legacy of late Godfather of Soul.
Soul Town is SIRIUS’ channel dedicated to the great soul hits from the ‘60s and ‘70s. Listeners will hear the legends of classic soul including Marvin Gaye, Barry White and Gladys Knight.
November to be “Duran Duran Month” at Sirius…

Sirius has announced that Duran Duran will be a featured artist during November with a slew of special programming across a number of channels.
Highlights include:
- A Takeover of Super Shuffle for 3 days (11/13-15) as “Red Carpet Radio”
- Track-by-track discussion of their new album on the Pulse (Today)
- A one-hour career introspectective on First Wave.
- The band playing some of their favorite songs on Big 80’s daily at noon.
There will also be Punk and Reggae specials hosted by the band.
Shade45 to celebrate 3rd Anniversary

Shade45 is rumored to be celebrating its 3rd anniversary with replay of it’s inaugural program on Friday, Nov. 9th at 6PM EST. I seem to remeber that lots of members here praised the program when it first aired (but I can’t find the thread.)

Sirius Bluegrass DJ named “Bluegrass Broadcaster of the Year”
Sunday, October 14th, 2007SiriusBackstage would like to congratulate Chris Jones for being named Bluegrass Broadcaster of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association. Chris can be heard on channel 65 at Weekdays 6 pm – Midnight ET and Saturdays 9 am – 3 pm ET.
Long time listeners may know that Chris has been on the Bluegrass channel since it’s inception, and that the Bluegrass channel was former-CEO Joe Clayton’s personnal favorite. (As opposed to current CEO, Mel Kazmarin, who’s favorite station is the CNBC rebroadcast.)

Grammy® winner to host 4 part special series “Songbird On The Air” in Outlaw Country channel 63 and Guest DJ in The Roadhouse channel 62
Grammy winning country legend Emmylou Harris will host a series on SIRIUS Satellite Radio’s Outlaw Country in celebration of the release of her five disc box set Songbird: Rare Tracks and Forgotten Gems. In the 4 part series, aptly named Songbird On The Air, Emmylou will play tracks from the box set along with other hand-picked songs from her musical friends and role models. Each show will feature a special theme “Singing with Ladies,” “Singing with the Boys,” “Songwriting” and “Spirituals”.
In addition to the Songbird On The Air series, Emmylou Harris will also guest DJ a special hour on SIRIUS’ classic country channel, The Roadhouse, where she will play songs from the channel’s library and tell stories about her life on the road.

Barbara Walters Call In Show To Debut on Sirius Stars

Barbara Walters will be joining the list of Celebrities with a call in show on Sirius starting September 17th on the Sirius Stars Channel 102. Sirius also airs an exclusive show called “Best of the Very Best” featuring compelling interviews Walters has conducted over the past 30 years.

SIRIUS negotiated the agreement for the new series with Allen Grubman, Lawrence Shire and Karen Gottlieb of Grubman Indursky & Shire, P.C., who represent Ms. Walters and her production company Barwall Productions, Inc. The terms of the deal were not disclosed

Live Earth Concerts on Sirius Satellite Radio
Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007SIRIUS Satellite Radio will broadcast all 8 Live Earth: The Concerts for a Climate in Crisis including live backstage interviews from New York and live commentary of the London concert.
The historic event will take place this Saturday July 7, 2007 over 24 hours and encompass 7 continents, 8 cities, and over 150 music artists including performances from The Police, Bon Jovi, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Eyed Peas, Metallica, John Mayer, Smashing Pumpkins, Roger Waters, Beastie Boys, Genesis, Kanye West, Duran Duran, Madonna and many others. SIRIUS will also dedicate a channel to broadcasting the best of Live Earth, highlighting the most memorable moments from all 8 concerts.
Staying true to the spirit of the event, SIRIUS will launch Green 119, a four-day broadcast channel starting July 4, dedicated to informing the audience about the realities of the climate crisis with environmental tips and myths, celebrity interviews, political commentary, listener comments and the Live Earth concert calendar.
