NEW YORK – December 26, 2007 – SIRIUS Satellite Radio today announced that SIRIUS Left host Alex Bennett will broadcast from the 2008 Iowa Caucuses and the 2008 New Hampshire primary, delivering breaking election news, voter reaction, and analysis straight from the center of two of the nation’s biggest political events.

The Alex Bennett Program, which airs Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm ET exclusively on SIRIUS Left channel 146, will be at the heart of the Iowa and New Hampshire political action.

In Iowa, Bennett will take listeners across America “inside” two actual Iowa Caucuses, bringing a firsthand account of the debate, discussion, and procedure by which America’s first political choices are made for the 2008 presidential campaign. Bennett will share Caucus results and all the late breaking news from politically influential Iowa on January 3rd and January 4th.

In New Hampshire on primary day, January 8th, and the morning after, January 9th, Bennett will broadcast his show live from the iconic Red Arrow Diner in Manchester. Sirius has announced that Duran Duran will be a featured artist during November with a slew of special programming across a number of channels.  Duran Duran Fall 07Highlights include:

  • A Takeover of Super Shuffle for 3 days (11/13-15) as “Red Carpet Radio”
  • Track-by-track discussion of their new album on the Pulse (Today)
  • A one-hour career introspectective on First Wave.
  • The band playing some of their favorite songs on Big 80’s daily at noon.

There will also be Punk and Reggae specials hosted by the band.

Shade45 to celebrate 3rd Anniversary

Shade45 is rumored to be celebrating its 3rd anniversary with replay of it’s inaugural program on Friday, Nov. 9th at 6PM EST.  I seem to remeber that lots of members here praised the program when it first aired (but I can’t find the thread.)

SiriusBackstage would like to congratulate Chris Jones for being named Bluegrass Broadcaster of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association.  Chris can be heard on channel 65 at Weekdays 6 pm – Midnight ET and Saturdays 9 am – 3 pm ET.

Long time listeners may know that Chris has been on the Bluegrass channel since it’s inception, and that the Bluegrass channel was former-CEO Joe Clayton’s personnal favorite. (As opposed to current CEO, Mel Kazmarin, who’s favorite station is the CNBC rebroadcast.)

SIRIUS Satellite Radio’s Outlaw Country, on channel 63, is launching a new weekly show hosted by country singer, and songwriter, John Anderson.

The show, called John Anderson’s Outlaw Hour will be featuring songs and artists from the world of Rock and Country.

The show will air on Wednesdays, at 8 pm, ET, and will replay on Fridays at 11am ET, and Saturdays at 12am, ET.

Barbara Walters Call In Show To Debut on Sirius Stars

Barbara WaltersBarbara Walters will be joining the list of Celebrities with a call in show on Sirius starting September 17th on the Sirius Stars Channel 102. Sirius also airs an exclusive show called “Best of the Very Best” featuring compelling interviews Walters has conducted over the past 30 years.

I look forward to being on SIRIUS radio. I especially love taking phone calls from listeners,” said Barbara Walters. “This is a whole new experience for me, and very exciting.”

SIRIUS negotiated the agreement for the new series with Allen Grubman, Lawrence Shire and Karen Gottlieb of Grubman Indursky & Shire, P.C., who represent Ms. Walters and her production company Barwall Productions, Inc. The terms of the deal were not disclosed

Sirius adds NPR to Internet Radio Streams

Sirius describes the channel as follows…

NPR SIR-1 offers in-depth news, features, and entertainment produced and assembled by NPR for SIRIUS Internet Radio. Featuring public radio favorites like Talk of the Nation, Day to Day, Marketplace and the Diane Rehm Show as well as new productions from independent producers and public radio stations nationwide.

This is a great add for users of wi-fi enabled radios like the Stilletto (although early reports are some are having trouble getting it on the Stilletto).
