Stiletto’s back …back again
Tuesday, September 19th, 2006Yep, the Stiletto has once again returned to TSS-Radio and Crutchfield. The cause of the delay was Sirius simply awaiting an ID number from the FCC so they could market the Stiletto. TSS Radio still predicts the Stiletto to arrive in late September to early October.
There’s some more info (including the Stiletto manual) and a link to some pictures at Satellite Radio TechWorld.

Stilleto Home Kit Manual: Sirius and Yahoo! Team Up
Saturday, September 16th, 2006
In a stunning move that will shock absolutely no one it appears as if Sirius and Yahoo! have indeed teamed up for the upcoming Stiletto. The Stiletto Home Kit manual was made public by the FCC and the secret was let out, here’s the experpt:
During installation [of My Sirius Studio Software] you will be given the opportunity to install Yahoo! Music Engine™ software. The Yahoo! Music Engine software will recognize the Stiletto and enable you to manage playlists and download music files. Yahoo! Music Engine will also allow you to view the songs and artist saved by you as “Favorites”. By using the Yahoo! Music Engine software, it may be possible to purchase or download this content.
The Manual also shows the first picture (if you want to call it that) of the home kit and remote.

The Stiletto Mystery Solved?
Saturday, September 9th, 2006Many theories have been presented as to why Sirius asked retailers to remove the Stiletto from websites but Satellite Radio Techworld has more than likely found the answer. The FCC.
From Satellite Radio Techworld:
(from Section 15.1 of some FCC document)
(c) Unless specifically exempted, the operation or marketing of an intentional or unintentional radiator that is not in compliance with the administrative and technical provisions in this Part, including prior Commission authorization or verification, as appropriate, is prohibited under Section 302 of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended, and Subpart I of Part 2 of this Chapter. The equipment authorization and verification procedures are detailed in Subpart J of Part 2 of this Chapter.
So, what does this mean? It means that Sirius can’t market the Stiletto until it’s approved by the FCC. And that means retailers too.

Sirius Halts Stiletto Pre-Orders
Friday, September 8th, 2006
After weeks and weeks of positive press from various blogs and websites the Stiletto has hit a snag. Sirius today told retailers to stop pre-sales of Stilettos. Crutchfield, TSS-Radio , and Circuit City have taken down their pages and images of the Stiletto.
Orbitcast.com has the story…
This page on TSS-Radio has indicated that SIRIUS has asked their Authorized Retailers to suspend pre-order of the anticipated SIRIUS Stiletto. Further investigation shows that Crutchfield has also pulled down their Stiletto pre-order page (after going online only a week ago).
Initial source checks indicate that this is not a supply issue, though the exact reason as to why SIRIUS Authorized Retailers are being asked to do this is unknown at this time. If I had to take a guess? I’d say a certain four letter organization comes to mind.
Just to note TSS Radio still expects their shipment of Stiletto’s to arrive in late September or early October. However, this certainly does not look good.

SIRIUS Conductor vs. Sonos ZonePlayer
Saturday, August 19th, 2006

SIRIUS has taken a cue from the digital music company Sonos with the new Conductor home audio system. People want to see what’s playing wherever they are, and they don’t want to leave the couch to change the channel.
While the Sonos controller is much more advanced (and much more expensive), the Conductor is a notable step in the right direction, bringing joy to SIRIUS enthusiasts who have struggled with a means to control their SIRIUS home-tuners remotely.
It would have been great if SIRIUS had went with WiFi (versus RF) and a better interface, but I guess you really can’t complain for $150.
The CNET Blog has a writeup on the Conductor as well as the above photo.
Excerpts:
Hot on the heels of the Stiletto 100, Sirius has announced the Conductor, a home satellite-radio system consisting of a small tuner, an indoor/outdoor antenna, and a supercharged universal remote. Developed by Universal Electronics/UEI (the same folks behind the One For All Kameleon and Nevo remote lines), the remote has a three-line LCD display that shows you the channel, artist, and song you’re listening to. The 6-in-1 remote can be programmed to control other products in your home-theater system, and because it offers both infrared (IR) and radio frequency (RF) communication, it can communicate with the base station through walls and obstructions–up to 150 feet away, according to Sirius. The system also includes an IR blaster, which presumably means you’ll be able to control other parts of your home theater from afar–such as adjusting the volume on your receiver or switching over to your CD player–even if they’re in another room or in a concealed cabinet. And just as you would be able to with a standard Sirius tuner, you’ll be able to program up to 30 presets right from the remote.

New Details Surface on Stiletto 100 & 10
Friday, August 18th, 2006
From Orbitcast.com via Dealerscope
Lots of the stuff in the article is repetitive so we’ll highlight the new stuff…
The Stilleto 100 will MSRP for $349 and the Stilleto 10 will retail for $249. What’s the difference? The S10 will only feature 10 hours of record time and does NOT feature WiFi. Supposedly the two devices look simillar.
Just to clear something up regarding the two batteries that come with the Stilletos. The extended life battery will give you 4 hours live, 14 hours on Wifi, and 20 hours on recorded content. The smaller power battery will have half the power.
Both of the radios will NOT come with a home kit nor a car kit, they will have to be purchased extra for $69 each (both will be available in September). But, I wouldn’t be surprised to see retail and online stores doing a buy the Stilleto and get a home kit and/or car kit free type of deal.
There will also be a boombox and executive docking station, both retailing for $149.
