Default College Football '08 predictions

We're now about a month away from college football getting under way. I thought it might be fun for us to give our predictions of conference champs, and the eventual national title game. Then we can revisit this thread in January and see who earned bragging rights. I'm going to stick to only the BCS conferences, but I suppose if you want to get crazy, you can go for the "mid-major" conferences as well.

SEC - Florida Gators

I think Georgia probably has a better team than Florida, but their conference schedule is brutal, as they go on the road to South Carolina (who they lost to last season), on the road to LSU, and on the road to Auburn. Florida's toughest conference road game, on the other hand, will be Tennessee (they also have Arkansas and Vandy).

Big XII - Oklahoma Sooners

If they can stay healthy (Sam Bradford), I see them being undefeated at 10-0 going into the Texas Tech game on Nov. 22. That game might decide the Big 12 South championship, and as much as I would like to see the Red Raiders pull that one out, they just don't play well in Norman. Oklahoma faces Missouri in a rematch from last year's conference title game and wins their third straight Big XII title.

Big 10 - Ohio State Buckeyes

I'll be SHOCKED if Ohio St. doesn't run away with the Big 10. The talent level for the Buckeyes is head-and-shoulders above any other Big 10 team. And their rival Michigan will be in transition mode under RichRod, and will be lucky to make a bowl game.

ACC - Clemson Tigers

If Tommy Bowden is ever going to get to a BCS bowl at Clemson, this is the year. They have 16 returning starters from last season's 9-4 squad, including senior QB Cullen Harper, who should garner some Heisman consideration. The schedule sets up nicely as well for the Tigers, as they don't play either Virginia Tech or a much improved North Carolina. At Wake Forest and at Florida St. will be their toughest conference games, but both are certainly winnable.

Pac 10 - USC Trojans

I don't think this needs much explanation. USC has won or shared the Pac-10 title for six straight seasons, and this season should be no different. They get Oregon, Arizona St, and Cal all at home. Even though it's very early in the season, the game vs. Ohio St. on Sept. 13 could be a national championship elimination game for either the Trojans or Buckeyes.

Big East - Pittsburgh Panthers

I'm going out on a limb here, but Pitt should be a much better team than last year. They lost only 13 lettermen from last season, which is fewest in the Big East, and have 16 returning starters. They have their toughest game at home against West Virginia, which might just be for the Big East championship. USF should also be in the mix. Call me crazy, but I like Dave Wannstedt to finally put it together at Pitt.

BCS National Title Game - USC vs. Florida (Gators win)

The best thing I like about CF predictions is that 90% of the time, they're wrong...

None of my pick will be logical. I'll go by my least favorite conference to my favorite...

big east
West Virginia. They were good last year, they should still be good this year, despite losing their coach...

ACC
Boston College. The other Golden Domers are the surprise of the year...

Big Ten
Ohio St. Their coach is the best dressed coach in CF...

SEC
Tennessee. Fulmer wants to go out a winner. He'll make a good AD next year. They will bet Auburn for the Title...

Big XII
Texas. They will win the Red River Shootout and win the Championship game vs. Missouri...

Pac 10
Arizona St. They will beat USC and everyone else as the former 49er coach wins his second national championship...

Arizona St. VS Ohio St in the BCS Championship Game.

Arizona St 2008 National Champions...

SEC - Auburn Tigers
Georgia's schedule is simply too tough. My LSU Tigers will have a tough time with inexperienced quarterbacks. The defense will be good.
Auburn vs. Florida for the SEC.

Big XII - Oklahoma Sooners
Missouri will be good as well.

Big 10 - Ohio State Buckeyes

ACC - Virginia Tech

Pac 10 - USC Trojans

Big East - West Virginia
Pitt will be good this year too.

BCS National Title Game - Auburn vs. Ohio State
Why not? Ohio State loses another to an SEC team.

The USA Today Coaches' Poll ( http://www.usatoday.com/sports/colle...l/usatpoll.htm) came out last week. Rivals.com also has its own list, ranking all 120 Division I-A teams (http://collegefootball.rivals.com/co...144&CID=815280). It should come as no surprise that the Big XII (5) and SEC (4) dominate the top 15 in each poll. Here's a comparison between the two:

Wouldn't surprise me at all. RichRod runs a completely different style of offense than what they are accustomed to. Until he gets his own recruits in there, Michigan is going to struggle. They'll have a difficult time just making it to a bowl game this season.
