"Yes, it's true. Believe it or not, I'm considered by many to be an 'offensive genius'. Or at least, I was at one time. In retrospect, that Tom Brady guy probably had a lot to do with it."

How good is the SEC? The new polls came out, and they have 4 teams in the top 10 and 6 in the top 25 (including Vanderbilt, wow!). I'm a Big XII guy, and I think it's clearly the 2nd best conference...but I'll admit, it's a DISTANT 2nd best.

IMHO, you can't really say the SEC is better then the Big XII. Right now I'd say they're about the same. Once the Big XII starts conference play, we'll see just who should be ranked and who shouldn't.

Like Kansas. As much as I like Kansas, I don't think they'll have the year they had last year. I can see them going 2-6 in conference play. No way are they going to beat Oklahoma, Texas, or Texas Tech. Depending on how beat up Missouri is by Nov 29, they my just beat them.

Nebraska should go 5-3, maybe 6-2 in conference. The Cornhuskers may be ranked by the end of the year...

That's the great thing about college football. You never know what's going to happen...

I didn’t know you were a Jayhawk fan! Texas Tech should be 7-0 when they go to Lawrence next month. Don't be so sure that Kansas has no chance against them...I think they have an excellent chance. I’m really, REALLY nervous about that game. Tech always plays poorly on the road, and you guys can put up some points (I’m not sold on our “much improved” defense just yet). I have a feeling that Reesing might put up some numbers against us. But that should be a good game!

And you’re right…no one can know with absolute certainty that the SEC is the best. I guess I should have mentioned in my above post that the Big 12 also has 4 teams in the top 10. But in my opinion, from top to bottom, the SEC is best. We’ll see how the rest of the season plays out. I don’t know if you listen to Rivals Radio at all on Sirius, but Chris Childers discussed something very interesting a week or 2 ago on the recap (Sunday) show. In college basketball, you have things like the ACC-Big 10 Challenge where schools from the two conferences play each other. Imagine that in college football with the SEC and Big XII. Games like Oklahoma/Georgia, Missouri/Florida, Texas/LSU, Texas Tech/Auburn, Kansas/Alabama, etc. How great would that be for a college football fan?

Kansas is one of my many favorite teams...

I got to go to a Jayhawks game a couple of years ago. It was homecoming against Texas A&M. They were leading the whole game but lost in the last two minutes...

Every time the Aggies scored, the Texas State Troopers did some funky line dance...

That would be great. It would help better judge conference strengths. Inter-conference games at the beginning of the season are always great...

That would be an awesome idea! One year, SEC vs. Big 10, next year SEC vs. Pac 10, etc. That would be great. It would allow us to better compare the conferences, plus strengthen a lot of teams nonconference schedules. (This year's LSU non-conference schedule: Appalachian State, North Texas, Tulane, and Troy.)

I was drooling over the matchups Avuncular was mentioning up there between the Big 12 and SEC. Unfortunetly (or not, depending on your preference) an SEC vs PAC10 matchup would be an slaughter almost across the board, ceptin of course for USC. I think even Tennessee could of beaten UCLA on any other day except the day they played. Vandy could beat 'em. Speaking of Tennessee, I think Phulmers days are numbered. If TN has a losing season look for him in the unemployement line. And way to go Vandy, no 21! Yea for the Commodores.

Hey semi, I sure hope your right about Nebraska. I'm a bit more skeptical, with the pass defense we've shown were gonna get run over by Mizzu, KU, TT, OU, and maybe Colorado. Short of a miracle I think we lose at least 3 of those games if not all 5. If we do end the season ranked, and a bowl winner, I'll be more than pleased. Hope springs eternal!

Haha, that's pretty good...not exactly the Texas State Troopers though. You see, Texas A&M is under the delusion that they are a military school, and as such, they have their own "Corps of Cadets". And yes, they can be quite annoying during a football game, as you unfortunately found out. Even worse than "The Corps", however, is those ridiculous Yell Leaders that they insist on having. Instead of actual female cheerleaders, A&M prefers having 5 dudes lead the crowd in a series of "yells". It gets old after the first 5 miutes of the game. As you can tell, I don't have a lot of fondness in my heart for A&M.

Here's one of those "line dances" you talked about...what dopes!

And a nice picture of an A&M Yell Leader. Sure beats cheerleaders, huh?

I'm so glad this a a normal sports forum. If you go on sites like CBSSPORTSLINE and ESPN its nothing but people putting down each other and their teams left and right. I thought this week was great. That LSU/Auburn game was great. I do not see how they could drop Auburn that far in the polls. They played a hell of a game. It was nice to see some good quarterback play from the Buckeyes. Yea I know its Troy. The funny thing is everyone was calling for an upset and having Troy win. They were talking about how good they are and that they took Georgia to the wire last year. Then after the game those same people were saying yea but its only Troy. What hipocrites people are. This is a great forum.

Default The Pac-10

How wonderful it must be to be USC!! To go the rest of your schedule and not have to play one more team currently ranked in the AP Top 25.

Let's compare USC's remaining schedule with Georgia's.
USC -- @ Oregon State, Oregon, Arizona State, @ Washington State, @ Arizona, Washington, California, @ Stanford, Notre Dame, @ UCLA

Georgia -- #8 Alabama, Tennessee, #21 Vanderbilt, @ #5 LSU, #4 Florida (neutral site), @ Kentucky, @ #15 Auburn, Georgia Tech

It's PAC 10 Lite this year...

I expect a few of those teams in the PAC 10 to make it into the top 25 by the end of the year. Oregon, Arizona St, maybe Cal.

For some reason the PAC 10, with the exception of USC doesn't get Top 25 Poll love until the end of the year...

That didn't sound right...
