In the timetables, Sirius does appear to be 8 months behind XM in hardware, however, the new dedicated home units and boombox is a step in the right direction.

However, I don't think Sirius has to go to court to cover our satellites, they are working just fine!

The chipset design isn't the biggest advantage on this device as they will only be catching up with the AudioVox shuttle in features. I think the biggest appeal of this device is that consumers can pick their color, which Apple with the I-Mac showed had large appeal. However if it isn't a PNP device then that could be a strike against it.

The whole reason XM has a 9 month jump on SIRIUS is because Sirius waited on the second generation chips before they released their product. Sirius chips are actually 3rd gen. Thats why the Roadie has the same features of the PNP1 and the H2A. Sirius didn't want to release an inferior chip when the new ones were just around the corner which currently makes them a generation ahead.

Its evident that its not a plug and play device. It seems to be for use in the automobile. In regards to SIRIUS being behind. Why don't you tell us something we don't already know. I think thexmdabster just likes to stir the pot. However, the fact is other than size, this new chipset still doesn't offer anything more than the SIRIUS Audiovox, in fact its limited 16 character text makes it somewhat inferior in that regard. Though the small size is going to be a big plus. These XM'er are doing what they always do, counting SIRIUS out. It didn't work back when they said we'd be bankrupt and out of business and it itsn't going to work now. Nice try but no cigar... SIRIUS has a ways to catch up, but catch up they will.

Quite frankly with all the secrecy and big deal being made about this new hardware that according to thexmdabster is suppose to once and for all put an end to SIRIUS is actually quite a let down in my opinion. The size and changeable colored face plates are nice, but not exactly earth shattering. JM2C

I think the fact that it doesn't include an integrated a wireless FM tranmitter, as it was hyped during the XM CC, makes it sigificantly less of a threat.

I'm sure it will be popular with the GenY segment, as is seen with iMacs, iPods and Nokia cellphones. But it won't be a Sirius killer.

All Sirius has to do is shrink their plug-n-plays down and work on the styling. With the JVC and boomboxes slated for fall, the holiday season should be hot.

Hmmm I don't think it looks that cool and I don't want a portable to carry around that I can't stuff in my pocket and lose signal. I don't have that prooblem with MP3 players. But then you run into legality ahh who cares about that.

I like installed with nothing extra just mess with the Head Unit is my style. Choose the Color? Well can't you do that with most modern HU's anyway? The display looks crappy and only 16chars still oh well.

I'm not digging it. Sirius got JVC sweet that always seems to be the most popular HU with the younger kids crowd for some reason.

Here is the picture of it for those that may not want to make the trip over to XMFan. I think Jeff made some valid remarks. It maybe smaller, but you have to use a casette adapter, and old style fm modulator, or direct connect. Its neat with the changeable face plates and colored screen displays. But certainly FAR from a SIRIUS killer. LOL

They seem to be announcing it a bit early since it won't be available until Mid september according to XM's website. I'm sure they are feeling the competitive pressures with the H2A and now the Shuttle. Usually if you have a winning product like the SKYFi, you don't want to pre-announce a product because it can kill sales (unless of course you are trying to stop people from buying the competitors product).

This product wins in the cool factor from a size standpoint and colors, but it really doesn't have any functional gains over the Shuttle. JVC will offer us yet another PNP solution this year to choose from, let's hope they get some size reduction over the current PNP's.

Yes, if JVC can get their P&P really down in size with all the same functionality and any other they want to throw in for good measure, then this would be SWEET! Very much so needed at this point.

Either BuggyBoy or Roscoryan said that the JVC is rumored to have 4 colors to choose from in the screens...

Just a correction, but I'm pretty sure the Roady uses Gen2 chips.

Is the SkyFi based upon Gen 1 or Gen 2 chips?

The "micro" antenna doesn't seem to be as small as I was being led to believe.....

My 2 cents:

I may be wrong, but I've seen nothing to indicate the Roady has XM's 3rd Gen chipset. Again, I may be wrong, but it also wouldn't be the first time a XM Fan would blow some smoke...

Also, I think it's an OK product, but nothing ground-breaking. It's a good entry-level unit. But they've only copied many of the features Sirius has now, including a smaller antenna.

This wasn't the killer app they were expecting.

And I think it's quite ugly myself.
