This is odd, because I heard of a shortage also from a person who works at a large retailer here. At first I thought it might be a glitch in the system, a backlog of ordered equipment, but now Im not so sure. I sure hope not, this would not bode well for sat radio in general.

Seems rather strange to me, but if XM units are so high in demand that is a good thing, but not good if their production quotas or demand can't me met. I am sure Ziggy will be around soon enough to confirm or refute this information soon enough. LOL

We have no shortages at our store, or at our Distribution Center in Oregon. We have about 15 on the shelf, and around 200+ in the local DC.

This might be to satisfy and give better support to the bigger retailers such as Walmart, CC, BB and Sears.

I can't comment on the shortages or licenses, but it doesn't look good when XM starts manufacturing their own hardware, therefore undermining their aftermarket partners.

The Roady and Commander will certainly not make Alpine, Pioneer and Sony happy.

If the delphi units are primarily made by xm, and they are the only ones that are really selling, how long will Sony and company keep making equipment for them, when there is a possibility of making more money with Sirius, because they leave equipment making to equipment makers.

Jeff when I mentioned this weeks ago on XMFan and remarked that in this way that XM is getting like Apple, they are eventually going to get to where they only manufacture their own equipment at this rate. I was told I didn't know what I was talking about. But that sure seems to be the direction they are heading in. I suspect we'll see a pure Delphi Home unit before its over. You sure don't hear or see much coming from Alpine, Pioneer or Sony, in fact they are all still using 1st generation chipsets and such. JM2C

Subroc you are right on!! My feeling exactly!!!

Pioneer hasn't released the new FM Modulator that was due back in Feb... They did release the 910 Tuner with the ability for 10-12 characters over the 8 but you had to buy a new HU.

Alpine has been silent on the matter... Sony still makes XM Ready HU's but you can't find the XM Tuners anywhere and Sony's PNP is nowhere to be found.

Audiovox has an XM Unit but nobody sells it. All that is pretty much around is Delphi. Now just wait some XMFan person is going to show up blow this topic off and say shop at the XMFanStore and buy a Get Kane Laid T-Shirt so he can get a cheap hooker and STFU.

Sirius EQ all the company's still make HU's and Tuners and I haven't seen one drop off. And they are adding JVC. Can't say anything like that about XM now can we?

Hey shop at http://www.xmfanstore.com/ and buy a brand new t-shirt that says, "Get Kane Laid" t-shirt. It's all on sale for 5% discount this weekend only! And get a XM decal!

Kane needs to get hooker soon!

Oh boy... Tristan going to kill me now... hehehe...

I just playing around with you Tristan! Please don't get mad at me.

Outside hardware manufacturer's such as Pioneer, Sony, Alpine, etc. simply cannot keep up with the speed at which XM develops new products such as the Roady, and now the XM Commander. So instead of putting all these products into a pipe line that is literalyy 1-2 years long when it cokmes to these outside manufacturer's, XM chose to bypass all that and get these products to market quickly by using the Delphi and now XM brands.

This is why Sirius is so far behind in the hardware race. They simply use outside companies to develop all this stuff, and that happens on those comany's time tables, not something that is very short. These huge outside manufacturer's usually take 1-2 years from the time they get specifications, to the time a new product hits the retail shelves.

XM avoids that whole waiting game and gets stuff out QUICK as you all have seen.

The only problem with that is the receivers can only pick-up XM.

In a couple years, when interoperability is the standard, will XM manufacture radios capable of receiving Sirius? Or will they spin-off the mfg. arm, before that division reaches critical mass?
