I think the design concept is less a boombox and more a desktop ala the Bose and other type units. I think they still missed the boat since it does not seem to have digital outs/ins or an aux input, which one would need to connect it up to another source or a computer.

It's design is more in home like, yet it is battery powered so clearly they intended it to be a boombox. It does have headphone output that can be used as a lineout. I don't think we will know if it has an aux input until someone gets one.

Yikes.

I'm not sure about that. Definitely weird.

I see a little Sirius favoritism here...I'll break from the trend and say I think it's a cool design and very unique. You have the 1st boombox, which is modern and contemporary. This one is definately targeted at the young male demographic, with more power and the look to go with it.

I also like the unique aspect. One side, it's XM. Flip the display 180 degrees, you have AM/FM/CD/MP3.

I like it, I do.

It's just a little Ghetto-fabulous.

The 80s-esq look in in though.

I must say that it doesn't really look like a boombox to me. It looks more like a home stereo unit. It doesn't appear to have a handle, and it's big and bulky, like a home stereo. I don't think people will be likey to use it as a portable boombox. Sirius will have the advantage, in that they will have a portable boombox that looks nice, and sounds good. Of course that is, if it has better sound than the XM musicbox.

It's definitely unique, never seen anything like it before. Are you saying the middle part rotates so the CD player and radio is shown on the front?

Yep...here are the specs from Crutchfield:

Quote:
Satellite radio, CD, MP3, AM/FM — Delphi's SKYFi™ CD Audio System has just about everything you could want from a boombox! This stylish system contains a pair of high-quality speakers, a high-gain XM antenna, an AM/FM tuner, a CD deck, and a dock for the SKYFi™ XM receiver (sold separately) in a convenient, portable package.

Slip your SKYFi™ XM receiver into the CD Audio System's loading dock, and enjoy XM programming wherever you go — at home, in the office, or at the beach. You can navigate through XM's 101 channels of music, sports, news, and entertainment, and control the system's tone settings. The Audio System 2's stereo speakers feature air ports for maximum bass response.

Rotate the centerpiece 180°, and you'll have access to the CD player and AM/FM tuner. The CD section plays standard audio CDs, plus MP3 CD-Rs and CD-RWs. You'll never exhaust your entertainment options! An AC power adapter, carrying handle, remote, and terrestrial and satellite antennas are also included.

If you already own a SKYFi™ XM receiver, you know how easy it is to get XM at home and in the car with a single XM subscription (thanks to Delphi's home and car kits). Use it with the CD Audio System, and you'll get even more portability! (If you don't already own one, the SKYFi™ XM receiver, which is required to operate the CD Audio System boombox, is not included, and must be purchased separately.)

The included high-gain antenna has a 22.5-foot cable, so you can easily position it for optimum reception. When you're using the CD Audio System in the house, you can place the antenna on a table top, or mount it on an indoor or outdoor wall. When you take the CD Audio System out of the house with you, the antenna attaches conveniently to the back of the boombox.

Important Note: You must subscribe to XM Satellite Radio to receive the signal. Service is available in the lower 48 states — not available in Hawaii, Alaska, or U.S. Territories.

Key Features:

dock for the Delphi SKYFi™ XM receiver (sold separately)
CD deck (CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3)
AM/FM tuner with telescoping antenna
durable ABS plastic body
high-gain XM antenna with 22.5-foot cable

It's a definite improvement in sound quality over the original boombox. 8 watts per channel! Hope Audiovox's is at least that much.

I was all amped up to buy one of these things until I saw the design.

That looks as big as my JVC FS-V5 system, and without the nice wood look and the fancy glass window that motors up when I hit eject. And I wouldn't even expect that from a boombox, but that looks way bigger than a boombox ought to.

Maybe it'll seem better in person though.

It sure looks like it will sound good. Big boxes for the speakers and a bit higher wattage, so I have a feeling these may actually bump a little. I sold my Skyfi several months ago. Right now I'd be content just get my hands on an Audiovox Boombox for my PNP2
