Default XM and A Little Problem With Radio Online

RADIO ONLINESM is in a trademark dispute with XM Satellite Radio Inc.

On September 15, 2004, XM Satellite Radio Inc. announced a new service to stream its channels over the Internet called "XM Radio Online." Despite the issuance of two separate cease & desist letters by RADIO ONLINE LLP, and negotiations with XM trademark attorneys on our behalf, XM Satellite Radio Inc. launched "XM Radio Online" on October 11, 2004. RADIO ONLINE LLP alleges that "XM Radio Online" infringes on its service mark "RADIO ONLINE," which was created 15 years ago to describe a trade publication and its services. We allege that XM has assumed our name without permission, acquisition or compensation to further its commercial enterprise.

You forgot the best quote:

RADIO ONLINE has become a brand name not unlike those of America Online®, Coca-Cola®, Microsoft® and Wal-Mart®.

Reminiscent of the Spike TV and Spike Lee squabble.

Frankly, I never thought of "Spike Lee" until he accused them of using his name. Now I think about this whenever I see or hear "spike".

This stuff drives me crazy!

I wasn't aware that this company was around until now. I think XM should change it just to avoid this debate I am sure they can come up with a more creative name. Perhaps XMFi or something like that or OnlineFi something creative that I could not come up with in a million years.

Or how about Onlinedy

Never heard of Radio Online before. OTOH, Paris Hilton claims never to have heard of Wal-Mart. ("What do they sell? Walls?)
