No new music channels I see. Playboy channel leaving? No surprise.

How was/is this channel and why is it being removed? Are they phasing out all of the premium channels?

Playboy was always premium and those that I know had it thought it was pretty lame and most of them had already cancelled it. O&A were initially premium, but apparently XM wasn't getting any traction with them either. O&A were always against them being premium, but XM had to give it a try, they eventually moved them to the basic service.

I would imagine if something comes along that XM feels they can get the subscriber to pay extra for they will do a premium again. But for now nothing they have warrants being premium, so this is a good move.

Rumor has it that XM is also dropping Playboy because Sirius is going to pick it up in their channel reorg coming up this fall. Oh, and it won't be premium either.

They were talking about it at 411. There was some kind of posting on some playboy radio site, myspace site or something, which sort of implied it. I don't have time to search for the links, sorry. I don't really give a damn anyway. That channel can go far far away for what I care. I tried it for a minute when I had XM. It's boring as watching a dog crap. Actually, watching the dog may be more fun.

Well if we loose discovery or court tv for that crap, I am going to be pissed. It was shit on XM and it will be shit on Sirius. Hopefully they have enough sense to realize this and this is just an unfounded rumor.

Actually, the rumor has it that PB will also go 24/7 unlike the bits and pieces it is now.. Taken from the the Yahoo PB fan board where Ferrel (producer of Night Calls on PB radio) posted this:

There's very little truth to the idea that XM is cancelling Playboy
Radio.

Here's the truth.

Playboy Radio will still be around in Sept... in Jan of 2006... and
for years beyond that.

By January we will have expanded to a full 24/7 station, with a
variety of shows, hosts, concepts and viewpoints.

The rest of the truth is despite the fact that Playboy Radio remains
the ONLY PROFITABLE PROGRAMMING on XM, they didn't want to re-invest
in a more robust product. Playboy does.
XM doesn't seem to want to serve the adult community and its fans.
Playboy does.
XM doesn't seem to want to cater to audience with sexual appetite.
Playboy does.

So very soon instead of just Nightcalls and Sexy Stories on the
radio...

You'll get a real 24/7 station that includes those series
AND
Hef, and the Playmates, and a dating show, and a DVD review show, and
a fetish show, and a show with sex experts, and a smart sexy morning
show.

AND
you'll be able to get it on your radio AND you computer

AND
we'll make the content available for podcasting

AND
there won't be any premium service fee for listening on the radio.

For us -- this is a dream come true.

Thank you for helping us make this happen
PLEASE COME WITH US.
Everyone over there is making the assumption, but reading between the lines, that Sirius will be getting PB radio and will not be charging for it. Who knows.
