that bites.

I am a wings fan. NHL is the only sport I would listen to on Sirius and now that's going to be gone.

Sirius paid $21.5M/year for 5 years for NASCAR.

How much do you think XM should have been willing to pay? $50M? $100M?

This is why we need something done with these "exclusive" partnerships. On terrestrial radio, you can get games and races on radio stations owned by different companies. IMHO, nether Sirius or XM should be the "exclusive" of anything. The should just pay the NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA, NASCAR the rights to broadcast, just like any other radio station would.

I hate to see the NHL leave Sirius, but my XM subscription will end on Nov. 20, 2006. Now I know what those filthy bastards at XM have done with all the money they saved by not renewing NASCAR.

Nothing pushes my button more then the loyalty that XM has for it's NASCAR fans. Thousands of truckers/NASCAR fans helped make XM what it is. Buying their equipment and telling others about it. And this is how XM shows it's appreciation. So much for corporate loyalties.

dude... dont be mad at xm........ sirius paid 100+million for I believe 5 years of nascar......xm IMO made the smart decision to let them go....xm picked up nhl they could. I dont think sirius would have been able to afford it....(big $$$$$ nfl, nascar, martha and stern. I also believe sirius will sign oprah..... big $$$$$$$$)......welcome to capitalism at its finest.....

that being said xm had to make this deal.....with them losing nascar to sirius in 07 all they would have had was mlb and college sports (only counting the major 5 and college). this now gives xm the sports lead(atleast marketing wise) until 07 being that the only exclusive sirius has until then is NFL.

Point taken.

How about that Oprah Channel? Will she be giving away new cars to all her listeners?

I'm so happy that XM is now going to broadcast NHL games. I was having a difficult time trying to justify spending all that money on another satellite radio provider JUST for the NHL. Thanks XM.

Trading NASCAR for the NHL is great for me. I'm sure the XM truckers hate it though.

You have 2 more years of Sirius coverage before you need to worry about anything.

Default Good move Sirius. Now full time NBA

You have to ask where these games would have gone. People were already asking where NBA, college and NHL games were going to go on Sirius. Now Sirius can focus on NBA and college (College basketball better than hockey). Plus NFL. Way better to listen to than mlb. It stinks for Sirus Canada, but who cares about Canada

Well let's see, you've got a population of 30 million but a lot less economic disparity than in the U.S., meaning a higher percentage of that population can afford to susbscribe. So I would say the Sirius shareholders should care about Canada.

Default Sorry Carnivore I was just joking

I know for shareholders this is a major thing. Canada was the next big market. But still more customers in this country. If Sirius locks up an exclusive with the NBA they should be set. Football, Nascar, NBA. Those are the 3 biggest sports right now. Plus some soccer, college sports and Sirius is still the sports leader.

I think in some ways this will hurt Sirius' launch in Canada. but they still will have games to broadcast for the next 2 years. So for the short term no, but down the road yes. Hockey is a big thing in Canada and is a real selling point for which satellite provider one will choose.
