Post Sirius SCH1

The Sirius Connect Home Tuner SCH1 is a serious response to XMs
entry into the home stereo market. Sirius took a different approach
so they wouldnt have to depend on the stereo makers to add it,
while it will directly hook to a "sirius ready" stereo, they added an optional
remote control so it can interface with any amp or stereo .. which
I think is a great approach...

I ordered the SCH1 as soon as TSS advertised it.. got it next day $49.99
http://www.tss-radio.com/sirius-conn...-faq-3869.html
delivered includes power supply, home antenna,RCA cables, and a din cable if you have
a compatible radio and has an Optical connection for your stereo
the radio is tiny, it will fit in my shirt pocket .. it looks good works great
it does have a newer receiver so it does pick up ALL the channels .. there is
no display because either the stereo or remote handles those chores ..
it also has a multi purpose LED like the GM1 that tells you if the radio has power,
antenna, signal, controller ... IF you are young enough to read the tiny print in the
manual , at least it changes colors so if I can remember green is good red is bad
I dont need to look at it anyway

I have no interest in the remote control since I already have so many
my main interest is controling it with the computer so I waited untill I
received Mitchs USB cable for it http://www.rush2112.net/ before I activated it

this is a "factory molded" cable not some homemade thing and it is all built into the
cable so you just hook the radio antenna, power,RCA and/or Optical up and connect the
cable to your USB port and with XP at least it loads the drivers and you are ready to go

http://pages.preferred.com/~dcounts/siriuspc/demo1.jpg
I used Mitchs "demo" program to activate the radio, it finds the radio updates it to whatever
is current and tells you you have to activate it just like your PNP did, called Sirius and
told them to switch my first radio(old audiovox) to the new radio(no charge by the way)
and in less than 20 seconds from the time he had all 12 digits the program told me the radio
was updated and ready
next

I mainly use Alex's Sirius Recorder to operate the radio and I posted it last year so I wont
go into detail again but will add he is making several changes right now .. the program already
has more features that most will will ever use .. recording, extensive scheduling, mini display mode, seek, database logging,
streaming, interface with MS Messenger, auto RSS feeds, web server and control, besides the 36 presets
you also have a favorites tab so you can see "your favorites" and as far as I can tell there is no limit
to the number of those and you can put them in the order you want to see them, there is also a Sports tab
that automaticaly shows any "official" sports program that it is curently on( there were only the 2 basketball
and 1 hockey on tonight about 11:30 or when ever I did the screen capture.
http://pages.preferred.com/~dcounts/siriuspc/sports.jpg but like saturday or sunday
it will fill up
it will also scroll your presets, favorites, or scores if you want that.. one of the new features he added
is the voce announcement which I think comes with the S50 maybe, not sure where the idea came from but it tells
you with Sirius's announcers voices which channel you tuned to .. also of this stuff can be toggled on or off
so if you dont like scrolling,or anouncements, or visual songs changes you dont have to
he also added an nifty audio mixer so you can set your recording levels within the program, it will detect your
windows defaults but you can set it to anything in your computer.. I have 3 different sound cards with optical
digital inputs and it will let me choose from any of them without having to change my normal windows settings

I know all of this information is all running together the best way to learn all the program can do is look at
his webpages. http://www.backpocket.com/sirius/

Rich is also ready to post an app http://satamp.satradiodot.com/ I have been testing which is a
smaller program without all the bells and whistles
for those of us that just want to listen and are not into recording etc .. it also works with XM and/or Sirius
it will detect what you have and you can switch between them if you have both .. it works with the XM radios that
almost everyone uses PCR,Direct and the Sirius Connect models ,TimeTrax interface and the other PNP types that some of you have modified
he is going to be adding some more features like messenger or notifications and stuff but the intent is to have
something small for those that are not into complete computer control

all these pictures make the post so big there are more in the dir where
these are http://pages.preferred.com/~dcounts/siriuspc/
and I will put some more in that dir this weekend if anyone wants to see them

I do like the SCH1 the price cant be beat($49) and it is small easy to use and has the latest tuner/firmware

..Dale

Great post! I just noticed the new USB cable on Mitch's page and ordered it a couple days ago. Now I'm anxiously awaiting my SCH1 and USB cable. I'm hoping that it'll work as well as it looks like it does. I wish I had seen you post earlier, and maybe right now I'd have the hardware in my hands instead of waiting for the packages to show up. I just hope that the ID3 tags are configurable and that I can somehow split my recordings into 30 minute chunks without too much trouble.

can't wait for Sirius Recorder 2.0. I just got things hooked up and was a bit disappointed that the older version of the software doesn't work with the SCH1 interface. The new version of SatAmp works fine though (although I wish I could turn off the taskbar popups for every song change!). Once SR2.0 comes out I'll hopefully be able to scrap my old method of recording Stern.

Edit: Figured out how to turn off the mesages

SatAmp is a pretty cool app. I was able to use AutoIT to script all the recording I wanted to do on H100 and H101 using SatAmp and an Mp3 recorder. So at least I can get by until Sirius Recorder 2.0 is released. Cool stuff!

This is the MP3 recorder that I use:

http://www.abyssmedia.com/

And I use AutoIT for scripting:

http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/

My "scheduled recording" method is pretty cumbersome but it works. Basically If I want to record a show, I write a script that launches SatAmp (if necessary), tunes to the proper channel (scripted button presses), then launches the MP3 recorder (which is already internally set up to record for the duration of the show that I want to record). I use Windows scheduler to launch this script a minute or so before the start of what I want to record. After the show is over and the MP3 recorder is done doing its thing, I launch another script that processes the files and archives them somewhere on my hard drive. Basically that script renames the files based on their date and the show I am recording, adds ID3 tags (so things are nice and pretty on my Ipod), puts the files in an archive location, then shuts down the MP3 recorder. I'm no developer so my scripts are no works of art - but they do the job! And once its all set up, it's hands off for me. All I need to do is grab the latest files from the archive and load my ipod.

If Sirius Recorder 2.0 can handle all the scheduling and recording I hope to be able to cut out everything above except the script that renames/tags/archives my Stern files.

I was hoping to find some free MP3 Recording alternatives like Audacity (which supports Stereo Mixer) but oh well. Thanks PM!

Sirius Recorder 2.04 is officially out:

http://www.backpocket.com/sirius/

I also threw down a couple donations and got the scheduler plugin. It's freaking cool stuff. Still messing around with it but so far I am very impressed.
