There is a new film coming out that all music fans should take the time to see. It is called Before The Music Dies.

Never have so few companies controlled so much of the music played on the radio and for sale at retail stores. At the same time, there are more bands and more ways to discover their music than ever. Music seems to have split in two - the homogenous corporate product that is spoonfed to consumers and the diverse independent music that finds devoted fans online and at clubs across the country.

BEFORE THE MUSIC DIES tells the story of American music at this precarious moment. Filmmakers Andrew Shapter and Joel Rasmussen traveled the country, hoping to understand why mainstream music seems so packaged and repetitive, and whether corporations really had the power to silence musical innovation. The answers they found on this journey–ultimately, the promise that the future holds–are what makes BEFORE THE MUSIC DIES both riveting and exhilarating.

If the film is not coming to your city XM is making it possible for you to experince the film:

XM Radio, the nation’s leading satellite radio service with over seven million subscribers, has joined forces with Before the Music Dies to spread the message of the film to music lovers everywhere. In conjunction with the grassroots B4MD screenings happening across the country during the week of November 12 – 19, XM will be airing exclusive B4MD programming, including the first-ever “radio premiere” of a full length film.

XM Broadcast Premiere – November 12!
On Sunday night November 12, the audio version of B4MD will premiere in its entirety - followed by an exclusive half-hour interview hosted by XM’s Bob Edwards with the B4MD filmmakers, Andrew Shapter and Joel Rasmussen. The premiere and interview special will air at 9 p.m. ET on XM Public Radio (XM 133).

XM 24-Hour B4MD Broadcast – November 19!
At the conclusion of the weeklong grassroots event, XM will provide a 24-hour loop of the B4MD audio broadcast and Bob Edwards interview on the XM LIVE channel (XM 200) beginning at 8 a.m. ET on November 19.

Extended B4MD Clips on Your Favorite XM Channels!
Extended B4MD promos – with audio clips from the film and Bob Edwards interview – will appear throughout the week and beyond on fantastic XM music channels like X Country (XM 12), XMU (XM 43), XM Café (XM 45) and Bluesville (XM 74)

Lee Abrams, XM’s chief creative officer of programming, sums up XM’s involvement best:

“B4MD is an important film for anyone who loves music and we at XM are happy that we can help share this film with our millions of listeners. While this documentary tells a story that may be a shock to many consumers, it speaks directly to the appeal of XM’s service – people who subscribe to XM enjoy a broad universe of music they can’t find anywhere else, and artists, regardless of genre, can reach larger audiences and grow their fan base.”
