Default XM- It's Time To Let Go

I haven't been an XM subscriber for 2 years. I get an email from XM today saying that I'll be getting 10 channels of XM for free from 11/22-12/5. All I have to do is turn the radio on, the radio that I sold 2 years ago! I don't really care, it's actually quite funny.

However, they did offer me 2 free weeks of their online service.

Well, just look at it as being able to hear two free weeks of a superior Christmas music line-up.

I got that email as well. The message said something about my radio being turned on Wednesday. At first I thought there was some sort of billing problem but soon realized it was for a radio I have not used in over a year.

Desperate times call for desperate measures! But I suppose it is a good idea, it not like it cost them much to do it, other than activating those channels. My luck it would be all the channels I don't like.

dont be a fool - retention is the name of this game. before you laugh too hard about xmsr using a no-cost measure to take advantage of 'paid-for' hardware, already in the field -- just look at siris insane spending over the last few days on advertising in its 'desperate' (and probably futile) efforts to make its guidance.

siri is set to lose way over a billioni dols. this yr. and that loss is being driven up by the kind of spending spree xmsr got hammered for last year so i"d much rather see xmsr using these 'desperate' measures then the ones siri is using right now. i hope nxt yr before siri sets its guidance it will put the financial health of the business above the need to add subs at all costs -- at least xmsr had an excuse (stern) for doing it.

If you would stop being so darn defensive all the time, you would clearly see I said this was probably a good idea. Man you really need to lay off the caffeine. I rarely see a single post from you that you aren't biting some ones head off, calling them a name or being defensive. If you like XM so darn much, what the heck are you doing on this forum? For the life of me I don't see why you are here, you have absolutely NOTHING positive to say about SIRIUS period. I think we all know your position by now since you post it in almost every thread you participate in.

I got the same email, good idea for them. Sirius should do the same.

I guess someone called XM and said they didn't know anything about e-mails going out (could just be customer service) and that there is suspicion that they could be coming from a questionable source. I'd watch it until proven otherwise.

the streaming freebie isnt a big deal -- i dont blame siri for trying to do something with it it only makes sense to try but nobody following this biz would expect it to make a big difference.

the point is that xmsr has millions of churned factory installs out there and the email cost zero to do if they get a few bus they are ahead and they will get more then a few. not 50% or 20% or probably even 10%. but theyre free subs. why not? if they get 10K subs out of the millions then they ought to be doing it every few months.

xmsr has promoted its streaming much more heavily then the siri streaming promotion with its microsft & dell relationships and it just doesnt seem to matter for them so it probably wont for siri except there are some who would like to hear stern again after a year. but they probably arent going to sign up (if they wanted stern for $13/mon siri is giving away radios they could hear him on)

It's a good idea. In fact, SIRIUS & XM should have a free rotating block of channels, just to keep OEMs who haven't activated interested.

All it takes is one song to catch them.

Jeff is absolutely right. I've always thought that deactivated receivers should have some rotating channels available. Especially the automobile OEM receivers. Give people a taste, and they will be interested. Buy a used car with OEM Sirius, and there it is. Good marketing ploy that should be permanent.

I called XM on Monday to let them know I didn't want to renew the subscriptions on my XM radios. One of my XM radios gets deactivated next Monday, and I got that e-mail on Tuesday. How funny...

Come Jan 10, all my XM radios will be deactivated. Thank you XM for four and a half years of service...
