Default Why the hate?

I was doing some research on the XM boards since I've been thinking of picking it up as a second sub. It seems the XM people have a bitterness towards how Sirius counts its subs. By saying this I mean counting all cars with subs even the ones still on the lot.

My thinking on this issue is that its a paid subscription no matter how you look at it. Do the reaction of these people downplaying Sirius' numbers mean they're threatened by Sirius catching up to XM in subscriber rates? Who cares where the sub is, if its paid for thats all that matters in the world of business. If someone isnt there to listen it means Sirius is getting free money (which s always good money.)

I agree, I have had XM for about 2 years and recently added Sirius as a second sub and I have always noticed XM subs really bad mouth sirius. The sirius boards don't seem to be near as bad towards XM. I think most of the people on the XM board are O&A fans and will hate anything Stern has a part in. I guess when sirius passes XM in subs they will view it as stern beating O&A........again.
As for adding XM as you second sub, you might want to do their free online trial before adding. The music is not as good as sirius, but O&A and Ron&Fez are not bad if you want more talk to listen to.

I've noticed this on XM boards as well.... the amount of Sirius bashing on XM boards is insane compared to XM bashing on the Sirius boards. I think a lot of it is jealousy since Sirius has gone from a nothing company to being a very real threat to XM within a year.

It's just brand loyalty.. I have no idea how the psychology works, but many people really get worked up about how what they like is better than what others like.

You see the same thing with things like cars and trucks, (Ford vs Chev. Dodge), computers, (Mac vs PC), even soft drinks (Coke vs Pepsi)

It does have alot to do with brand loyalty, but I think he was saying there is no reason for all of the bashing. If you like XM, good for. It doesn't mean you have to talk bad about Sirius.

Hex, this board discourages such hate. The guidelines specifically state that 'fanboyism' and trolling may cause threads to be locked, posts to be deleted, or, in extreme cases, offending members to be banned.

Some mods have both services and aren't shy about talking about it.

Frankly, I find we have more XM fanboys who become members just to bash Sirius on this board than Sirius fanboys who bash XM. What does that tell you?

FYI, this is EXACTLY what Sirius fanboys were accusing XM of last year. If the subscription is being paid for, what's the difference.

This is a totally bogus statement. The mods on this forum totally discourages XM bashing and we certainly don't particpate in it as the mods and admins do on the XM forums with SIRIUS bashing.

I know you've been called down for being pro-XM, so maybe that makes you feel that this forum hates XM, but that isn't the case at all. In fact many of us mods actually are dual subscribers.

Wild guess......The Stock Forum?

It's directed at anything that may be different, Sirius, iPods, HD Radio, FM Radio, whatever. There are some people who don't understand different technologies and therefore bash them because its easier than learning.

Then again, there are just some people in this world that should have been drowned at birth.

Cool

As someone who started with XM back in 7/02, I didn't go with Sirius because...

1) They didn't have NASCAR

2) It took Sirius longer to go North American wide

3) It cost $12.95/mo when XM was only $9.95/mo.

I came close to getting my first Sirius Subscription in 11/04 because I had no NASCAR to listen to on the weekends. I thought the NFL would be nice. I held off on it because XM was still only $9.95/mo. I didn't want to pay another $200.00 plus to buy another unit and then pay $12.95/mo.

I came to SBS around that time looking for Promo Codes, and actually found some. But I never used them.

I didn't think Sirius was better. I was happy with XM.

Then in 2/05, it was announced that NASCAR was moving to Sirius in 2007. Then XM raised there rates to $12.95/mo. It still took me almost four months to pick up my first Sirius.

I started my first Sirius Subscription on 6/3/05 (I think). I registered to SBS shortly there after. Now I love Sirius. My XM Subscription ends on 1/10/07. Five and a half years of XM...

I like Sirius better...

Cool

I favor XM but do like the idea of both companies having different formats in music (XM tends to go a little deeper) and Sports. We need at least two companies competing against each other so subscription rates are not $19.99 a month.

I wish XM could have gotten RADIO MARGARITAVILLE
(Darn it!)

I noticed you edited your siggy goreds.

I actually tried XM for about a month. While I liked XM a lot, I couldn't afford $23.90 per month. It's only terrestrial radio that I'm biased about, but not even XM is bad.

On top of the Brand Loyalty issue, I wonder if there's a bit of concern from some people that selected XM over Sirius because they were the "bigger" company. That was a huge selling point before Howard, They'd act like "Who knows if Sirius will even survive, better get the more established company". Now that size is barely an issue, what have they got to cling to. If it gives people what they want from it, I could care less where they get their service. I'd like to see Sirius grow, just because I think it will make things better, but it doesn't have to be at the expense of others.

Of course there's a little feeling of validation in picking an underdog and seeing them win. I can't really say that I did, because my decision was based completely on where Howard Stern was available.

The other funny thing about the hate is looking at how many posters on the XM boards have screennames that bash Howard.
