Default Offstage: Yoko Ono Premiered Today 12/4/06

I've recorded this but have not listened yet:

Offstage: Yoko Ono Premiered Today
XM will premiere “Offstage with Yoko Ono” today, Monday, December 4, it was announced by the company. The exclusive multi-part special will feature Ono with complete creative control selecting the music of her choice and speaking openly about whatever she chooses.

“In my first of three broadcasts for XM Radio, I am happy to bring the message that ‘Change Is Gonna Come,’ which is the title of Sam Cooke’s powerful song featured in this program. Let’s all work to make the change. We can do it,” said Yoko Ono.

Yoko Ono defies categories. An enigmatic artist and icon with a rich history comes to XM’s OFFSTAGE in a stunning three-part OFFSTAGE. Yoko Ono takes control with HER play list and her commentary. Her own radio show that focuses on an extraordinary mix of music, thinking and opinions. A must hear for any fan of music.

Monday 12/4 at 6PM ET on The Loft - XM 50
Encores:
12/5 at Noon ET The Village - XM 15
12/8 at Mid. ET The Village - XM 15
12/9 at 3PM ET The Loft - XM 50
12/9 at 6PM ET The Village - XM 15
12/11 at 6AM ET The Village - XM 15

“Offstage with Yoko Ono” is part of XM’s ongoing original music series, “Offstage,” which debuted in summer 2006. Each month “Offstage” hands over the microphone and XM’s vast music library to a well-known artist to play the music they want and speak their mind. New episodes of “Offstage” premiere each month, with encores airing throughout the following weeks. Ray Davies of The Kinks, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Greg Allman, Joe Walsh of The Eagles and Bob Seger are among the roster of artist who have hosted their own Offstage specials.

In conjunction with the show’s debut, XM will be hosting an event to celebrate the debut of “Offstage with Yoko Ono” during Art Basel at Social Miami at Sagamore. Ono’s recent video installation “Onochord,” as well as other select video works will be featured as part of Sagamore’s new video art lounge.

The first installment of “Offstage with Yoko Ono” will debut December 4 at 6 p.m. ET on XM’s acoustic rock channel, The Loft (XM 50), with additional encores airing throughout the month. New installments will premiere in the coming months.

To say that Yoko Ono sucks is an offense to all those artists out there that truly suck, like Jon Secada and Rick Astley. Good, honest folks who once tried to earn a living in pop music. No, Yoko Ono comes from the bowels of awfulness, beyond where Carl Lewis' and Roseanne Barr's renditions of the National Anthem live.

To paraphrase "That 70's show," I'm going to explain my feelings for Yoko Ono through a highly disciplined form of poetry from her Japanese homeland, Haiku:

My heart aches with pain.
When I see you I vomit.
Die away from me.

Yoko, now that is some fine Sat Radio there. XM is really scraping the bottom of the barrel with this one. Nice XM!

I am sure subscribers will be flocking to hear this. Hopefuly this is one of those cases where she paid them and not the other way around.

I listened to the show out of curiosity and thought it was great not because of yoko but because of the music that was played even though it was a blatant anti-war political stmt from yoko the music was great. i plan to listen to the nxt installment.

like her or not you have to admit that yoko is an important and influential figure in the history of modern music.

FlagRiot you only listened to it because it is on XM and we all know you love to defend anything XM does.

Yoko is about as important as you are to the music industry in my opinion.

Heathen!!!! Communist!!! Blasphemer!!!!

Name one "important" thing besides banging John Lennon that Yoko Ono did to "influence" modern music?? For cripe sake, she claimed she didn't even know he was a Beatle, how in tune with modern music could she have been (for a sample of "in tune" from Yoko, listen to her singing )? I know garage bands that never got any further than playing The Rat in Kenmore Square in Boston who have had more influence on music. The lowliest of studio musicians who played on The Partrige Family albums had more influence on music. Mama Cass's ham sandwich and Karen Carpenter's ipecac syrup had more influence than Yoko friggin' Ono.

Congratulations man, this is the single most absurd statement I have ever seen posted to any forum, anytime, anywhere on the internet.

1) i wouldn't characterize what she did as "banging" Lennon

2) if you don't think Lennon was influenced heavily by Yoko Ono you have no idea what the history of the relationship is

3) if you think that influencing Lennon didn't influence modern music you haven't any idea where modern music came from.

I dont care for yokos politics. I dont care for her "art". I dont care for her personality.

But i sure as hell respect the fact that she has been dedicated, since December, 1980, to the legacy of John Lennon.

Jgatie, I always thought she was a joke as did everyone I ever knew. I remember us laughing our asses off at her music. The only reason anyone every had any interest in her was because of who she was married too.

Have you ever heard anyone say, I am in this business today because of Yoko Ono... Hell No and you won't!

Oh yeah, cause John Lennon was not capable of inluencing modern music until he met Yoko. And his talent and contributions would have ceased completely if Paul had not sent the little stalker down the road to his more gullible bandmate. And you too would be "dedicated, since December, 1980, to the legacy of John Lennon" if it kept the cash register ringing in that little cottage industry known as "John Lennon's Legacy (TM)".

Give me a friggin' break. She married him. Period. The rest of it was John making decisions (good or bad) for himself. She may have influenced him, but she sure as hell didn't influence "modern music". Aside from cutting some of his own songs in order to release her dreck on his albums; his influence on music was all his own.

I dont know how someone can say that she influenced Lennon without also saying she influenced modern music. Hell, the breakup of the Beatles has been largely attributed by many many people to yoko and if you think that didnt influence modern music your nuts.

without a doubt yokos influence resulted in the release of atmp and mccartney at the times they were released and if you dont think yoko influenced pob and imagine and everything lennon did thereafter you obviously havent paid attention.

have a feeling there is no agreement on this subject so thats all i have to say about it. there are plenty of places you can go to get up to speed on the influence, good or bad, yoko had on the beatles and lennon, and if you dont feel that directly influenced modern music then i dont know what else to say to you.

I agree 100%. Neil Young's version of IMAGINE was a nice touch.

Sorry Chuckles, but to call an outside, non-musical, hack singer who happened to marry a Beatle "an important and influential figure in the history of modern music" is stupid. We might as well say Lennon's mother is "an important and influential figure in the history of modern music" because she died when she did. Or the Cessna that killed Buddy Holly is "an important and influential figure in the history of modern music". Or the 20 quadruple shots of vodka that killed John Bonham are "an important and influential figure in the history of modern music."

What about Linda McCartney? Is her shrine being put up right next to Yoko's in the Pantheon of Rock Legends? They could both sing about as well as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.
