I don't live there so I can't comment about what is or isn't taking place there. My comments were directed at O&A and their ignorance. The mayor in that city may well be just as ignorant, but it doesn't excuse O&A now does it. I think he has every right to defend the homeless rather he can do anything for them or not. They are citizens of his city and if they are targets by morons he should say something.

There have been many, many mayors across the US that have not been able to do much about the homeless. There is only so much you can do. I deal with homeless people in my line of work and some of them, just can't be helped. But that doesn't mean they should be the butt of jokes and made fun of either.

for your information, menino has/had no control over the big dig and its problems. its a federally funded job and is managed by mass highway (and its subs). however the crime rate is up in CERTAIN districts of boston like dorchester and mattapan.

Quite true. I was going to bring this up, but I figured Sox has so few posts that make any point (or any sense, for that matter), that I'd give him a break. The murder and crime rate in Dorchester and Mattapan are gang war related. Up until the recent explosion in these areas, Boston has been (and pretty much still is) a safe town murder wise (if not an actual crime free town).

Violent crime in Hub up 11% in first half of ’06

by tony lee / metro boston

DEC 19, 2006

BOSTON — Violent crime in Boston increased through the first six months of the year compared to January-June 2005, according to preliminary data released yesterday by the FBI that showed a troubling national trend.

Violent crime in Boston was up nearly 11 percent in the first half of this year, with a spike in murders, robberies and aggravated assaults evident. Nationally, violent crime was up 3.7 percent.

Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis cited guns as the primary problem.

“Weapons are much more prevalent,” Davis said last night in a national appearance on ABC News. “We’re seeing a rise in weapons on the street.”

Davis commended his officers for recovering four firearms in two separate incidents Sunday night, but Boston is not the only city struggling to combat gun-related crimes.

“It’s clear the issues and challenges we are currently facing are not unique to Boston,” BPD Director of Communications Elaine Driscoll said, citing a 4.5 percent increase in violent crime and an 8.4 percent spike in murder in 20 cities nationwide with populations of 500,000-999,999.

Yup, and you think this refutes the fact that most of the rise in crime is happening in Dorchester and Mattapan?

Sox, read slowly and get this right, it'll save you further embarrassment - Those of us from the actual "Sox Nation" know that Dorchester and Mattapan are part of friggin Boston. They are just neighborhoods within Boston and most of the rise in crime are due to a gang war within those neighborhoods, you tool.

For future reference - Charlestown, Back Bay, Chelsea, West Roxbury, The North End and (believe it or not) South Boston are also neighborhoods within Boston.

Get out of the deep end and go back to your inane comments, Sox. I liked you better when you were incomprehensible, rather than when you advertise your lack of comprehension.

Nah, I actually have an appointment to get my fingernails pulled out with rusty pliers and I'd rather be doing that. I will be looking for the flop sweat and the Stern lifeline on Youtube, though. Luckily, the scant 7 minute segment won't even dent my employer's 10 MB/day media download limit. Had to wait until I was home to view Howard's 20 minute segments on Letterman and Conan. Besides the obvious length difference, there was also much more audience laughter in the Howard segments and we all know how that plays havoc with the audio compression codecs. I mean, even when the Howard stuff was broken up into two vids each, any one of them still blew my download limit.

Anyone wanna bet that they can't get through the whole segment without mentioning Howard at least once?

They went through the last few weeks without mentioning that name. You do realize that the rumour that all O&A do is talk about him is just a gag right? I mean i LOVE when they rip on Stern but unfortunately they rarely do that.

Oh and if anyone brings up Stern it will be Leno. Just like when they were on Letterman, it was Letterman who brought up Stern.

Should be a great show! I'll be sitting here instead of working due to the blizzard here in Denver. Looking forward to it!

Come on now,

the reason Leno will bring up stern is because he'll have nothing else to talk about.hardly anyone on the west cost knows who O&A are.but everyone knows stern.

it's the only reason O&A are even on leno.
