Sirius user for a year just got a Nexus for XM a week ago. On my big home speakers the XM sound is clearer and cleaner. But . . the vocal hiss and the trailing "ssss" sound after every "S" is very annoying. Better lower end harmonics with Sirius and higher end with XM make for very different listening experiences.

I've probably gotten used to Sirius over the past year though XM kind of sounds cold and hollow. Sirius sounds warm and inviting by comparison.

Just some observations from a new XM user. Will give them the full 6 month test run.

Thats the best way I could describe it as well. One one had it is good that there isn't a ton of DJ talk. but at least on Sirius they know when to shut up, or if they are doing an interview they need to play a song or two every once in a while. When they did that on XM it was a good 20-30 minutes before they went back to music. I must say that this fact was the turning point to make me go back to Sirius.

That "s sound" thing comes and goes, based on my experiences. It is pretty annoying. To my ears, they sound close, with XM having a slight edge. It sounds more "alive" for lack of a better term. Sirius sounds kinda tinny to my ears, but YMMV.

I have had both. I must say the sound on Sirius through the Fm modulator is better. Content? Depends on what you like. I think though that Sirius has more of party feel.

I have both XM for 2 years about and Sirius 2 weeks. I like having both. XM has more variety of music and has an iPod like style (less DJs). But I sometimes like DJs on the Radio and also I kinda like knowing what is going to be playing when I listen to Sirius, not as much deeper music I never heard before. Now Talk Hands Down XM is better for me. Sports I give the upper hand to XM for me. My 2 favorite sports are on XM, Baseball and Hockey. I get all my Redskins games on TV so NFL isn't a big thing on Sirius for me, and the NBA I will give an occasional listen to when a Knicks game is since those are barely shown here on TV. Also I like that XM had dedicated channels for sports it doesn't interrupt other channels. But I like Sirius for Music and SQ and XM for Talk and Sports

EDIT: I forgot this I give a tie for for Music shows I like the Bob Dylan show on XM also the Wolfman Jack tapes on XM and the Marky Ramone show on Sirius

I have both, and I'm really impressed with Sirius, but I will always have XM, as I've invested more money in XM hardware. lol

I have a few friends that have XM and I am thinking of getting it for the baseball. I like the music a little bit better on Sirius, but there a few stations I really like on XM, Fred is great, and the few times I have heard the Village I have enjoyed it, so I think I am going to go with both too.

Anyone have any experiences with the nexus ? is that a true portable ?

I have a Nexus and love it. It is not a true portable, in the sense that it does not recieve live XM when it is out of it's dock, but it small enough that you can take it anywhere. I feel like recording a few hours of Fred every night gives me the same experience as if I was listening to live content, with the advantage that I can skip any tracks I'm not crazy about. Plus I can listen places where I'd be frustrated with not getting a live signal, if I expected one.

The Nexus is a good little unit. I've left it on recording while listening to Sirius, then I'll review on my way to work and dump stuff I don't want.

Although, it did freeze up on me rather badly today. I tried to rewind the end of a song and it froze. I couldn't even turn it off! It's done it before. Finally I held the off button for a very long time and it went off. A little scary.

But, it works and is small and functional.

I want to like XM so much. But, I listen to the hip hop channels, and the only one that is truly uncensored is ch. 66 Raw. Wonder why they called it that?

I knew these channels were like that before getting XM, but actually hearing it for myself was rough. They have a lot of great music, they just need to let it rip a bit more. Like Sirius does.

You can certainly say that for you XM is 'hands-down' better. However, based on how one talk personality changed the entire future of a company, Sirius 'hands-down' has the better talk.

See, throwing your entire company into one talk personality is really dangerous, regardless of who it is.

The nexus is not a true portable.

If you want a cheap portable, may I suggest the Tao with a ClipXT.

That antenna clip thing looks interesting. How are those first generation xm portables, the Myfi ? I saw a few on ebay.

I have two MyFi's and could not be more happy with them. If you get get one at a good price, get it. I am thinking about getting on for a spare because I can see myself keeping these for years.

As dualsub33 said, the TAO is available for $99 with home and car kit. The TAO is the same as the MyFi, internally. The ClipXt would be a good thing to get to create a better signal.
