Default 'Out of Closet Stern' and vintage gay bits

Interesting to see how our culture has changed. These old gay bits I hear on MTT seem so lame now. I was bored hearing the St Patrick's routine on the 1988 show they played. Still, I would imagine in 1988 it was considered to be pushing the envelope. I can even remember in the 90s when Howard would call people 'fags' but now you don't see any of that.

Hopefully he avoids trying to revive that, as he did with the Bareback Mountain bit earlier this year. Those jokes fall flat nowadays.

I never thought his old gay bits were hillarious. As a matter of fact, I found most of the old "bits" forced and not laugh out loud funny.

I was nervous the The Bitter Half was going to be more of the same. It had some of the same forced elements but was head and shoulders above past "bits".

Bareback Mt. was actually funny to me. That's not gay, is it?

In my opinion the only out of the closet Stern that holds up is when they blind sided Bill Shatner with it.

As with all of the old stuff of Howards, it was funny when it was live but it isn't funny now. That is why I hate Master Tape Theatre. I would'nt watch a 20year old episode of David Letterman and I can't listen to the old stern stuff. It was hilarious then but since this show deals so much with Pop Culture it isn't fun to hear when it's so old and dated.

This isn't meant to say Stern was no good then, but I would guess that the shows we are hearing today won't be that funny in 2026.

Everytime I hear the 'Tortured Man' song at the end of his show it's kind of funny hearing about the women he wants. Teri Hatcher, Heather Locklear, old bags now.

20 year old Letterman is WAAAAAAYYYY better than what he calls a show today. The Late Night Show was just hitting its stride 20 years ago. It's kind of funny how similar Dave and Howard's career originally took shape; both had reps for taking shots and celebrity and poking fun at people who were guests on each other's shows. Both eventually changed their approach with their guests, though Howard took a hell of a lot longer to be more cordial than Letterman. And that's where the similarities really took their final shape. Stern's show today is still funny and is now very cutting edge, Letterman looks as if he's coasting and spends most of his time making ridiculous faces and lame character voices while sitting behind his desk. It's such a shame, because I know he still has a razor sharp wit.

I'll take NBC Letterman over the graphic heavy, every bit has an accompanying Paul Schafer song that is the CBS show...anyday of the week and twice on Thursday(for the Friday Show).

I'd still give my left nut to bang Teri Hatcher, I think she is so fucking hot. She's aged like fine wine, I'll bet she will still be hot at 60.

I agree with the others about Master Tape theater. While it was good at the time, it just isn't as funny now. Although I would enjoy a few best of's like when famous stars like Sam Kinison or Frank Zappa cam on, or the fights with Pig Vomit.
