Exactly. Had it been a hit, he may have a better shot at the "sitcom money" he's mentioned. He's staying.

If Artie ever left it would be the last we ever hear of him until his obituary. He creates a good mix and balance but he's nothing but a so-so comic without the backing and exposure of the show. And without the disciplinary restraints that the show imposes on him, he's a lost cause.

Actually this rumor was started by a caller to the Wrap Up show...

Can you explain this a little more please?! Beerleague was an utter failure by all accounts. It never released wide and is coming out on DVD very shortly. Hence, I don't quite grasp what you are getting at here. It would have been met with the same results, Stern show or not. Granted, the movie is funny, but it never accomplished what the production company had hoped it would. Again, please elaborate.

That's what I was saying- after BeerLeague I'm thinking his plan to be a movie star isn't look all that great.

Gotcha...obviously I didn't catch the implicit sarcasm of your original post. My bad motherfarker.

Default Artie in development with Fox

I'm listening to Artie on the wrapup show talking about his development deal with Fox. Apparently he pulled Howard aside after the show today and told him about it. He claims he's not leaving the show right now, but said he might in 10 months or so if it takes off.

I agree with you. He has a great job. Alot of these TV shows don't take off or last a short time. If for some reason Artie does feel like leaving is the right thing to do, what will he do if the show gets canceled, come crawling back to Howard? I hope he really gives this alot of thought and does what he thinks is best. I really wonder about his decision making sometimes.

A lot of actors and writers take these development deals and never actually do anything that gets on the air for the network. Basically, it's an agreement that you won't work with another network, you will bring them any ideas you happen to have and you'll consider anything that the network comes up with. Because there's nothing that says a show has to come out of the deal, it can be an easy way to make some big bucks (if you're lucky enough to land one). I think that Artie is betting that he will be able to get the development money without having to leave the Stern show.... and we all know how successful Artie is at betting.

Artie is 39 and the Stern show will be over in 4 yrs. Maybe looking for other options isn't that bad of an idea. No way the show continues after this contract- Howard will be 60 and will be just running the channels when this deal is over.

What? Howard's only 52-years-old...which means by the end of the contract he'd only be around 56! And hell, Jay Thomas just turned 58-years-old and is doing better than ever. Personally, I think he'll end up extending his contract by 3 years. That's my prediction.

I agree. Howard is the Johnny Carson of radio, he appeals to all age groups, and he will be around for a long time to come.

I couldn't agree more. Howard likes what he's doing why he want to give that up?

This sort of reminds me of what Billy West had to say on future earnings vs working on the Stern show. Howard is the person who makes money on any syndication or future earnings once the show is over, all the other talent makes their coin year to year. Billy saw the oportunity for earning money long after performing by being involved with shows that will have a televison shelf life.

Artie can make good money from the residual checks years after his 'future' show is off the air of its original run, he'll make nothing once Sirius reruns the current Stern shows as Mastertape Theater segments. By that time Howard will be able to take his helicopter from Nobu to the Northshore Animal Shelter once a day before retiring into the Hamptons sunset.
