I thought the Jack Black interview was classic Howard. Howard was truly interested in the effect upon JB of being taken to a nudist camp as a child and of his father bringing a second woman into the house. This was completely alien to Howard's traditional Jewish family upbringing (excepting the Playboys). He was sure that JB had to have been traumatized. And JB knew Howard was truly interested and that he could not skip around it. Howard really praised School of Rock when it came out and I think he thinks JB is a true talent. I thought JB was very good in High Fidelity and Shallow Hal. He was fabulous when he teamed up with Sarah Michelle Gellar to host one of the MTV Movie Award events.
Kyle was confronted with some comments he made about Howard in Private Parts to the effect Howard was not as great an actor as he claimed to be. At the time of the opening and thereafter, when Howard was relentlessly promoting the movie, Howard constantly talked about what a great actor he was and how he thought he deserved awards and recognition etc etc. Let's face it, he was playing himself and, as one of the celebrity guests (Billie Corgan, I think) commented on the way out of the premiere, "It's not Citizen Kane". I think Kyle's comments were made in the context of Howard's praise for himself and how easy it was to act.

The whole Playboy thing is very new to me. Either Howard has been hiding that for years, or just said it to get a reaction!

For years Howard has commented on how his parents let him read Playboy as a boy. They were open minded that way. I forget their thinking but I think it was along the lines that one should not be ashamed of the human body. So why was Howard so freaked out by the idea of a nudist colony? I guess he did not feel so opened minded about seeing his family with no clothes.

I must have totally misssed the "Playboy" thing because I only heard that recetnly. It's just so funny because they seemed like such prudes.

i hate when someone doesn't like something they're accused of 'not getting it'.. either it makes you laugh or it doesn't ..if you don't laugh it doesn't mean you don't get it.. i laughed my ass off at 'borat' but there's nothing to really get .. it's not like some top shelf entertainment that only the elite among us can comprehend.

ok .. jack black.. i don't fucking care

That's not exactly what I meant. I didn't say that to be elitist by any means. I explained in another post that, in the case of Borat, taken at face value, he absolutely looks like a guy that is just performing wild, over-the-top, idiotic stunts.

The fact of the matter is, believe it or not, there is actually a deeper meaning to what Sacha Baron Cohen is doing with the Borat character. He is shining a light on the fact that there are a LOT of backwards thinkers in the U.S.. I've discussed this in more detail in another thread.

So, if you don't like the humor, that's one thing, I can respect that. But I have a feeling people just catch bits and pieces of Borat and make a lot of assumptions about what Sacha Baron Cohen is doing with the character. They pass it off as just another "Jackass" type of humor, which isn't entirely the case. That's all I meant.
