Default The Urge To Bitch About: Howard

I don't really feel like bitching out Howard. It would be too easy to slam him for the amount of vacations he takes, but it only seems to bother others, not me. Some people claim is a hypocrite, but I think life eventually makes hypocrites of us all. Some would say he's a grand manipulator, but that side of who he is has made him what he is today.

I say go ahead and give out your worst, but remember one thing...you're all here writing your posts in this newsgroup BECAUSE OF WHO HE IS, so you must love the guy on some level.

But here's a little something to get things started...after 25 years in radio he still can't operate a sound board during a shift without the aid Gary, Scott or Fred helping him out.

You bought four subs because of Fred's sound bites? And Artie?

What's the deal, did you opt out yet?

One thing that annoys me about Howard is his over-use of the phrase, "...and I'll tell you why." For example, "Dancing with the Stars is the best show on TV and I'll tell you why."

I hate when he says 'honey I'll tell you what, take off that top and let's see what's doin'"

Also when Robin adds something and Howard repeats it as if we didn't just hear Robin say it.

He such a genius that I have been repeatedly disappointed over the last 15 or 20 years or so every time he displays the low-end side of his humor. He truly finds these things funny that are not remotely funny to me: duty jokes; the "fuck you...No fuck you" screaming matches; Red Peters' songs; Sal; lisping homosexuals (in the skits he used to do); men dressing up like women.

His taste in music is lame. He needs to get with the times.

I have one huge gripe about Howard. He is the one solely responsible for the butchering of the 23,000 hours of old tapes. The Mastertape Edit Theater is a bit of a joke because of it. The Seinfeld episode was drastically cut, there's hardly a mention of his ex-wife, as if she never existed.

I don't see how they can promote these older shows as uncensored.

Well, I guess for those of you who like MET for what it is, that's fine, but you should understand that you're missing huge chunks of content. And if you've wondererd as to why it takes so long for these shows to air or why they're only doing one show per day off, it's because these shows have to be a motherfucker to edit any traces of ugliness or embarrassment that remain.

I have a sneaking suspicion that one of the terms of Howard's divorce settlement with his ex-wife was that he not ever mention her on the air again.

Well, but...he didn't mention her on the air again...not really. Maybe Sirius had to go along with this. Is that why I never hear Elvis Costello singing 'Alison' on the 70's station?

Default The feigned vagueness/disinterest in Beth's affairs

Not that I give a shit about Beth's personal affairs, but it irks me when Howard will be telling some story that involves Beth and tries to come off like he doesn't really know or care about her activities and involvements, or that they're not significant. He downplays, like he's above it all or she's above it all, or something.

Example: "Beth was going to some meeting.. like... she sits on some Board of Directors for the save the animals or something.. I don't know..."

or: "I guess Beth is.. like ... some regular reporter or something for Extra now.. or whatever.."

or when someone mentions something like the American Express (I think) commercial she did and he acts all confused at first like he doesn't know what they're talking about at first. Then it's like "Oh yeah yeah yeah, that. Yeah, she did some spot for them..."

Then allow me:

- The gradual decline of Howard's manliness into his newly formed mangina. Of course I'm talking about his man purse, playing chess, his new found love for animal rights, constantly subjecting the listeners to his ultra flamboyant TV and movie viewing patterns (Dancing with the Stars, The Devil Wore Prada, American Idol, etc.), and just generally being pussy-whipped by Beth. Sorry, but the man has lost some of his edge. I expect within the next couple of years he'll be getting a sex change.

- Being the typical Jewish (Half-Jewish ) stereotype who goes on and on about almost everything. For instance, when someone like Gary supposedly makes a mistake, which in reality is nothing more than a miniscle little blip on the radar that the average person wouldn't even think twice about, he'll ramble on forever about it until you just want to puke. Same goes for when he's defending the constant media stories about him. Defending yourself is one thing, but talking about it for over an hour is another.

- The fact that he would even consider NOT being involved with the 10th Anniversary edition of "Private Parts"...especially after bitching for years about Paramount not putting out a special edition of the film. Someone needs to tell him that his divorce and current lifestyle with Beth have absolutely no bearing whatsoever on any of that. It's a great film and it deserves the special edition treatment.

- The constant vacations and taking off Fridays. No need to go any further on that one.

- Not giving us subscribers a third channel for the older shows. As he's already said, there are no ratings so he's not in competition with himself. Even if the older shows pulled in a bigger audience it wouldn't matter because it all comes back to him in the end.

- Telling Robin or whoever to hurry because he's tired or has an appointment, etc. If he truly has to be somewhere that's fine, but rushing certain bits and bitching over the air that the show has run too long just comes off bad, IMHO.

I'll quit there. Still love the show.
