Default Howards Attitude Towards Bubba's Wedding

Wow, in all the years of Stern that I've listened to, I've never thought of Howard being a stuck up snob but man what he is saying about Bubba's wedding is so rude. If it's that bad why even go?

Actually the shocking part is that he is even going. Bubba should be honored. Of course Beth O could sprain a hoof before they leave.

What did he say? Unfortunately I've not been able to listen today and I can't listen from work.

I was kinda feeling bad for Bubba when they were all bitching about not getting a diner.

But you see, that's honest and how people talk! If most poeple get an invitation to a wedding without dinner, that's an hour long topic of whether you're going, getting them a good gift.

Exactly vinny. The other thing is OF COURSE Stern is a stuck up snob. Narcissist all the way...but one that has a love/hate relationship with himself.

That's why he be on the couch 4 times a week.

Northerners have a hard time understanding weddings in the south. I remember when I was going to the wedding of my ex-girlfriend's cousin in North Carolina, I dressed in a suit and my southern belle girlfriend told me I'd be the only one there in a suit besides the groom. I told her she was crazy, but sure enough every guy at the wedding was underdressed except myself and the groom (to be fair, most wore their best belt buckle with their jeans ). They also didn't serve a meal, just appetizers in the church basement. In the northeast, a wedding has formal attire, a function hall, a band and a full meal; so for this born and bred New Englander, I might as well have been at a Tupperware Party.

Nothing against the informality of southern weddings, but it is really different for us Yankees.

I'm in Mass and just got married 2 months ago. Cost upwards of 50 large and wasn't even THAT big of a deal.

They said later that it was a rib, they're just trying to f with Bubba. Think about how cocksure he always is and then he gets around Howard and them and loses that confidence. Not to mention the stereotyping going on both in the studio and on this board. I've been to both kinds of weddings...

So have I. I've been to the most informal Justice of the Peace, meal served in the backyard of the bride wedding ever seen in Massachusetts and every male wore a suit (except my asshat brother-in-law, who didn't own one) and the groom was in a tux. Last year I attended a very casual wedding held at a town landing on the ocean; both the bride and groom were in casual clothes, but every male wore a suit. Conversely, I've been to 2 weddings in NC and one in Georgia, and the only one in a suit was the groom. That's not saying the south does not have formal weddings (my ex and I were going to be married in a formal wedding at a plantation), but the majority of weddings are much more casual than the northeast. Although even the NE is going more casual. Used to be that anyone who went to a wake or funeral wore a suit, but the last few I've been to I saw people in casual Friday type dress.

Weddings are funerals. The death of independance. I'm always amazed that North Easterner's think that everyone else lives the same way.

Exactly. But part of Howard's charm is his elitist New Yorker/Long Islander view on life and he plays that up. This stuff is nothing - think back to his "N-word Hating Hats" bit they played over the best of weekend to hear a real harsh view of rural America. He really is an isolated NY Jew that has never really experienced anything out of the NE and a few pampering resorts in far away vacation spots. He is stuck up, even for a middle class kid raised in a black neighborhood and he plays it up for laughs. I remember the riff he went off on about the Christmas presents he had to set aside for his doorman, postman, UPS man, driver, stylist, shoe shiner, dog walker, fitness trainer, plumber, taxi hailer, bartender, etc., etc. Gifts that would make anyone outside of NYC choke, but for them it is a given that you give these gifts to service people (or risk their wrath ). New York is a very different world, even compared to cities like Boston and Philly.

LOL - Let me be the first to congratulate you on your obvious wise choice of narcotics. Not a stuck up slob! Good one!

My wedding broke records for cheapness.

I paid the preacher an extra $100 to go to Crystal Cove state park in Newport Beach, Ca for the ceremony on the cliffs. His fee was like $350, so $450 total for that.

Everyone could come who wanted (even some of the beach goers stopped by to listen in)... everyone paid for thier own parking permit (saved $10 per car for that).

Then we changed and we took everyone out for a steak dinner at a total of about $500 or so (about 25 people came)....

Grand total for a wedding on the cliffs of the beach at sunset on the Equinox and room for 1000's of guests (had they bothered to show up) = <1k.
