I can definitely clear that up. When O&A were new to XM, XM decided to make them a premium channel and charge a monthly subscription fee for the show. They got approximately 30,000-60,000 subscribers and the show was soon rid of its premium status. Now, 2 years later, they are the most listened to show on XM satellite radio--according to XM management. Clear?

Most listened to show on XM? Not most listened to channel, or most listened to show in general but most listened to TALK show is what you're saying, right?

Before XM got rid of the O & A "premium status", their subscription rate was $9.99 per month and SIRIUS was $12.99 per month. To please the stock holders of XMSR, they raised the rate to $12.99 a month adding O & A plus XM online for free to "ease" the customers anger. XM was charging $2.99 for listening online. This all happened in late March 2005.

No, the most listened to show on XM is Bob Dylan. No wait, it's Lex and Terry. Nope, it's Oprah. Hold on, now it's Ron and Fez. Whoops, I meant to say it's O&A. Hold on now, it's Dylan . . . and on and on and on.

The fact is, outside of informal surveys, no one knows what the most listened to is on either service. The fact that XM management has changed the "most listened to" on an almost monthly basis according to who they're touting at the time is proof of that. Just look up old xzi posts for proof that "no one knows how many listeners O&A have on satellite" while simultaneously they are "the second most listened to show on XM."

If I remember right, XM managment said that Bob Dylan is the most listened to show, the 70's channel is the most listened to channel and that O&A are "one of their top 10 shows". That was last spring and I believe it was based on a user survey.

Could you imagine if Howard did that...Then he could prove he brought over so many people but how fucking douchey! Aren't O&A fans a little ashamed! Howard kept pointing out it was 35,000. It was a $2 charge?

Whoa! "They are the most listened to show on XM satellite radio"? Well they certainly succeeded in getting people to pay for them. Now all they have to do is get people to listen to them for free. Maybe next year some of the paying fans will get rid of their subs and start listening on Free FM, won't that be gooder? Waddle doodle, Imus numbers here we come!!!

Then again, that would mean the average O&A fan realizing he was paying for something he could get for free (except for that all important last 1-2 hours). Uhhhoh, retract the waddle doodle and cancel the Imus funeral. Looks like we're stuck at 18th overall.

Ohhh, but Imus is so tough to beat. He's a tiger. Grrrrr. And the spanish station got all of Howard's listeners (BIG crossover audience there, I tell ya). And men 18-24 who work in a carwash and live in mommy's basement is the only demographic worth going after. And XM doesn't promote us. And mayor Menino says bad things. And Tom Chiusano doesn't like us. And JV and Elvis take our numbers down from 9-10. And we still have fallout from DLR. And Hoo Hoo gagged us 8 years ago. And it takes time to build an audience after being off the air.

It's amazing what a few months does to the guys who formerly said "Now we get to go after all Howard's listeners", "we're sitting in his chair now" and "we have more listeners than him now".

What assholes! I remember Howard played it cool by not reacting much but I think when some caller told him about that comment he siad "Dude, you're sitting in Roth's chair!". if O&A were so great, why weren't they hired right away?

I think that both O&A and CBS were expecting a hell of a lot better numbers than O&A have come up with. They're literally sub 0.5 share in many of their markets. I'm betting that if things don't change they'll go the way of DLR.

This is the way it should be on the weekends and when Howard is off. MTT sucks ass, and the replays on the weekend are lame. Yeah O & A suck, but at least they are giving their fans what they want, unlike a certain billionaire.

I doubt that o&a have the same leverage as Howard when it comes to being able to write there own ticket. Does anyone have any idea how much xm is paying o&a and how long their contract runs ? It cant be all that much, they had to go back to regular radio to make ends meet.

But you are right , I wish Howard was on more regularly, even though MTT is very entertaining, especially pre Artie.

I would pay 12.95 just to hear Jackie laugh for 5 hours.

Those numbers have to be lower than even what DLR was pulling down....Think they got paid less! How funny would that be?
