Actually that's a great suggestion. One of the few rap groups that has enough of a catalog to pull it off.

They started a trend of music that is still played on 1st Wave every hour of every day. They have been selling out venues around the world and on the charts for over 25 years! The are still around today after failed suicide attempts and drug overdoses by Dave Gahan (a sign of a real rockstar). They've changed with the times, one album might be a light pop album to be played at clubs and the next, a dark suicidal NIN or Tool style rock type. And my number one reason why, I had a friend who absolutely dispised Depeche Mode, said he really knew nothing about them but always hated them, one day in my car I put in 2 CD's and started to play just the intro of each song, he named 17 song titles! Is there a band that you hate that you could name 17 song titles from? Only Nirvana has had a bigger impact on pop/rock music IMHO.
I think you're reffering to the Cure....or should be!

How could I be referring to the Cure when I stated "Depeche Mode" and wrote the name "Dave Gahan" who is the singer of Depeche Mode?

The Cure is a great band, no question, I've seen both bands live at Dodger Stadium back in the day but I truly believe that DM introduced synth-pop music in the UK and Richard Blade brought their music to America via 106.7 KROQ in L.A. and then that led up to Depeche Mode 101 (Live at the Rose Bowl) to a packed house of over 80,000 fans (I don't honestly think that the Cure could have ever brought in those numbers at the Rose Bowl). DM has had 44 singles on the charts, I don't have the numbers for the Cure or for the Beastie Boys but I've gotta think Depeche Mode takes the lead in this category, correct me if I'm wrong.

I love Dephece Mode, too, but there was this one point where on waay too many of the channels they kept playing DM...even on the modern dance pop station. As for charting singles, are you reffering to the UK chart? Because I would have to assume Smith and gang didn't do to badly.

I hear ya. But they did an all depeche mode weekend during the summer. It was great. When I had my S50, I just left it on all weekend and recorded like 40 hours of Depeche MOde. Great band. Still listen to them and the music is still good. It doesn't sound old or dated.

Just my opinion, but I think Led Zepplin is the most overrated band of all time. Zepplin and Aretha Franklin are probably the two most overrated music performers of all time. I just never got into Zepplin. I know i"ll get slammed, but whatever, I can take it.

I know threads can wander off topic, but from Zeppelin to Depeche Mode? Talk about being 'Dazed & Confused'.

I can see people saying that about Zepellin and agree to an extent. I don't think they are as highly rated as Aretha. Aretha is a huge talent (pun unintended but do what you must with it) as a singer and songwriter but so many others. I would honestly rank Donna Summer right up there with Aretha.

Donna Summer doesn't rank with Aretha and I would find it difficult to compare Aretha to Zeppelin. Not on a talent level, but they're both so different and bring other aspects of greatness to their own respective 'tables'.

Aretha did write songs, in fact she's written some great songs, but the majority of her body of work was penned by many, many other songwriters whereas Zep pretty much did all of their own work. Now, some would say, and to a very high degree of righteous accuracy, that some of their work, most notably their early work, is very derivative of other legendary blues songs. "Whole Lotta Love" stands out in memory as one that was talked about as being a carbon copy of what went before. But in any case...what were we talking about?...oh yeah...Zeppelin is very highly rated...still and I think as high if not higher than Aretha.

Donna Summer? Please...toot toot...hay...beep beep?

umm, I have an idea, how about NO FUCKING SINGLE ARTIST CHANNELS!!!!!!!! If you want to listen to Zepplin or what ever over and over and over for hours on end just rip all your records into your ipod! Single artist channels are a waste of bandwith!

How did this conversation about an artist channel wander off topic? I threw out Depeche Mode, some said Beastie Boys, The Cure, Led Zepplin, The Doors, Pink Floyd and the Beatles and so on, it's all music. I fail to see your logic of how all of these bands do not belong in this post. You for example may love Kenny Rogers and throw him on this list, if I don't like your choice I can think your taste in music sucks, but it's on topic.

I would.

I can see if someone starts the thread at Zep how it could morph into Pink Floyd or The Who or The Doors. If I wasn't too active in the thread and I came back into it much later expecting to see a bevy of other notable rock dinosaurs and instead found a few people debating a Depeche Mode or Cure channel, I would say the conversation has veered off. You're right, perhaps not 'off topic', but certainly into music that sucks comparitively.
