i like bubba, but usually don't listen to him for more than a few minutes. but he does do good interviews. maybe i will have to listen to him this week. i'm also not nuts about the bits that he plays. bits are so over. i don't think he is the next guy to take the throne from howard. howard doesn't sound like he's 50 percent retired. howard is at his best when he and the gang are just sitting around and commenting on topics.

Definitely just my opinion... and it wasn't my opinion until very recently. After hearing MTT and hearing the old Howard it became pretty clear that his drive is gone. Can't blame the guy, the race is over and he won, but Bubba still has that drive that Howard had 10-15 years ago. You can hear in Howard's voice these days that he's always looking forward to the next vacation.

While I do really like Bubba and most of his crew, I don't wake up excited to listen to Bubba. I still wake up and think "okay, today might suck but at least I have Howard to listen to."

To say Howard has no drive is just nonsense. He does a 5 hour show, is constantly out promoting, is constantly putting together new shows, is trying to remake movies, write books, etc. I just think that is pure nonsense. To have the success he has (and the money) and to still show up at work everyday and put on a great show day in and day out speaks volumes. He certainly has enough money to never work again. he is working by CHOICE now, not because he has too.

I like Bubba and his show and I try to listen everyday but if I missed a lot of the stern show, I'll be listening to the 12.30 replay instead of Bubba.

I'm not on board with you BMF. Howard is still the best at this craft, vacations or not. Bubba can be enjoyable and I fully support him. And I do think Howard did a great job of adding Bubba to the channels.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Howard's show, but when I listen to Bubba now or the MTT shows from the 80's and 90's I can't help but feel that Howard is only half in it anymore. The thing I notice most is when Howard tells everyone in the studio to 'calm down'- especially during the shock the balls show. Howard 10 years ago pushed everything to the limit.

I have to agree, Howard sounds tired a lot now. I like the show yet, and listen almost everyday, but listening to the older shows (which most are new to me since I never got howard up here in wisconsin...and a lot of the shows I hear are only a year or two younger then me, as I'm 19) I realize he just doesn't goa s far as he used to. There's a lot less bshing to other people, guests, and he's just more relaxed and ..nicer....

The shock the balls bit is a great example. I thought the same thing. Everoyne was having a great time watching/hearing it, and howard kept saying "this is madness...stop this..thats enough! No more!" Whether it was sincire or not, it really made him sound like the old father telling the grandchildren to settle down and go to their rooms. It's times like that that you realize he's just not as crazy or into ita s he once was.
More often now then ever he's willing to let something that's potentially funny in the news or somehing that can be used as a great story just slip by without a comment, where 10 or 15 years ago he'd be mocking the story or person in it and questioning it...

At any rate, I love the show yet, adn it's good in its own way now. It has a lot of great funny moments, but I also like Bubba. It's not as easy for me to si and listen to bubba for 2 hours like I can howard, since the wrestling and football gets in the way, but when they are goofing on eachother or bubba is yelling at someone, it's gold.

Just my thoughts.

Yup- once Bubba got away from thinking he had to have nothing but strippers coming into the studio, the show became great. I didn't like Bubba for the first few months but he/they did a great job of changing based on fan input.

That is EXACTLY the point I was going to bring up. I caught that segment for the first time yesterday and throughout the entire bit Howard was protesting with "that's INSANE!!" "that's insanity!", "calm down", "this needs to stop", etc. And then he even went on to say they weren't allowed to do the Shock the Puss bit that Bubba had especially saved just for this occasion. Of course everyone except for Howard wanted to do it...and thank god they got too. But, I was wondering the entire time is this a fucking den mother telling her children to behave because this can't be Howard Stern?! The old Howard wouldn't of hesitated for one second! For the first time ever I was actually disgusted and wanted his mike cut off!

Obviously I love the show or I wouldn't be here. But at least Bubba has that hunger and desire that Howard once had and seems to have lost somewhere along the way. And I'm really starting to wonder if Beth is responsible for his new persona? Don't ever recall him being such an advocate for animal rights and all the other post-Beth bullshit. Fuck this kindler, gentler Howard Stern, I want the old sadistic asshole we all know and love back!

Pretty much my point exactly... and I don't think it's Beth, I think it's because Howard is nearing 60 and doesn't have to worry about ratings anymore. I think what we've seen over the last few years is the REAL LIFE Howard supplant the RADIO Howard. Everyone has always said that he's crazy on the radio but normal as hell in real life... he's now the same person on the radio as he is in real life.

You're right, he's been saying that to Robin for a long time. He used to mean it literally.

Howard (A few years ago): "Anything else, Robin?" def: Give me more material to discuss.

Howard (of today): "Anything else, Robin?" Code for: Could you get this over with before traffic builds up on the way to the Hamptons?

That's very much an opinion and I'm sorry but not only is this is not an O&A board but it's certainly not a Bubba board! Shock the balls was bland as hell and once you hear it, there is nothing to repeat. Bubba is all shock and no brains, so if you want him, you can have him! If that ends up even making the Top Ten moments, it will only be because people can only chose their favorite moments from a few shows. A much funnier bit was following Sal into thinking he was in trouble with Sirius! He's a fucking nutcase with that retationalizing his racism, including blaming Andrea!

The man is smart.
He certaintly is trying to groom Bubba, yes, but I only hope that Howard has at least one more five year contract in him. He isn't diong his pouting yet, which actually could mean he is serious about reitiring. That would be really sad if it was true...Let's hope if Howard does really retire that as a backup plan to keep real Stern fans, MTT will play opposite Bubba!
