Now I think Tonyho's posts have a lot of subtlety. Like when he told Goreds "Kill yourself!!"; that right there was full of nuance.

SPEAKS VOLUMES, VOLUMES, I TELL YA! hehe
O&A have never denied that Howard did a huge amount of good for the radio business. Even while bashing him they give him a great deal of credit for changing the face of radio. They things they rip on him for are embellishing his accomplishments (inventing unplugged ect) and the gag order thing. Obviously the gag order bothers them because they feel like it limited what the ycould do with their show, I honestly don't have a big opinion of it either way. They just believe that it was hypocritical to preach free speech and then have a gag order placed on somebody.

Tell me what Stern would have done if any company put a gag order on him?

he would have broke it the next day, told his listeners, and then get fired.

what did O&A do-
they shut there traps.that makes them pussies.

That is only one half of the argument; the other half is that OA present bits that are very close or at least highly derivative to what Howard has done already. Howard did some parody, which is taking bits from someone else and making fun of them, but he did not ripoff anyone directly as OA have.

Free speech has nothing to do with a highly talented, money making machine employee asking the head of his company to tell two no-name up-and-comers (who are trying to ride the coattails of established talent) to shut the hell up and to (a) stop giving away other DJ's secret events and (b) cease slandering (by way of never proven overdose accusations) the established talent's underage daughter because it may bring a serious lawsuit down upon said company. Instead, free speech has to do with government censorship, like the FCC. You have now had your "rivalry" history and civics lesson for today.

PS - O&A also claim they went to a Howard press conference to "show respect". Howard had learned from a loyal follower who worked on their crew they were there to raise hell and he had them banned. Don't F with the master bbboys.

That last part of the lesson was free of charge, Chuckles.

You have to understand that Howard slips in and out of an exaggerated caricature of himself; he has been making invention claims for over 20 years.
As for the gag order, Howard had to stop them from spreading false rumors about his minor daughter. They brought the gag order down on themselves. Always listen to both sides of the story; you will get the whole picture that way.

I understand what Howard does quite well. I listened to him for 6 years before getting XM in the family and listening to O&A. I never even heard of O&A until I started listening to them on my dad's XM.

I also understand the argument in favor of the gag order, but there's also no proof that the "rumor" stated by O&A was false.

One last thing. Freedom of speech does not only apply to the FCC and shit like that. As long as something isn't slander, it's protected. This being said, if O&A remarks about Stern's daughter were false, then the gag order is legit. If it was true, then the remark is protected by free speech.
