I actually listened to a few commercials today. One - of the get rich quick variety - offered a free video tape (free except for postage and handling) that would turn the listener into a real estate mogul. What's the catch?. Another promoted a plan to wipe away the listener's debt... the greater the debt the better. What's the catch there?

It's sad when Howards most reputable sponsors are porn sites. I guess Sirius is desperate for sponsors.

The 2nd one will ruin your credit, they settle with the people you have the debt with, not as bad as bankruptcy, a step above. The 1st one, who knows.

How are they desperate? Listen to the show more often, you'll see how many different sponsors there are. You're the one saying the porn sites are are Howard's most reputable, not him or Sirius.

Sirius is taking the highest bidder... I don't listen to the commercials so I really wouldn't care if it was Osama Bin Laden paying for the time.

Howard always had disreputable sponsors, even on FM. This is the guy who promoted Sphincterine, for cripes sake. Remember, though - for every credit company or get rich quick scheme; there's a Vermont Teddy Bears, Pajamagram, 1-800-MATTRES, Heineken, Bowflex, 1-800-FLOWERS, etc. At least he doesn't have to plug the Jokeline and all Jackie's chotchkis, Allison Norris' latest play or the new Indigo Blue (or whatever Scott Salem's spawn is calling his band now) album.

dial a mattress and heinekin are reputable sponsors though.

but when they were on infinity radio, at least out here in chicago, they regularly had ads for strip clubs and other crap too as sponsors.

The one that gets me is the "grow that 'certain' part of the male anatomy" pill commercial. They are finally in a medium where they could just say it and they won't because they know it's BS and they don't want to make any false claims. I think the "certain" part they are really talking about is your liver...

The other one that pisses me off and not because it's sleazy, is the gotomypc ads. They try to spin it like this service will free you up from the office to go and party, when in reality, it will extend your office into your nights, evenings and weekends. "Now you don't have to be away from your family at work, you can be away from them in the privacy of your home office, car or boat..."

Thank goodness I can skip many of them courtesy of the S50...

There are times when I can leave the radio on when the kids are around when they are discussing things other than sex and not cursing. I don't have to stand by the volume knob but then comes a commercial for that Vanilla sex etc. and I have to make a dash for the radio. I was happier when they were running the online poker sites.

All I care about is there's only about 9-10 minutes of them an hour and that includes a bumper, a phony phone call, a song parody and Fred's intro song.

Wow, I guess people will never learn that Sirius' money maker is SUBSCRIBERS not ADVERTISING.

my favorite one is the list of home foreclosures or whatever and they tell you that "people whose last names start with A-M can call right now, and people whose names start with N-Z are allowed to call starting tomorrow at 9am...". That one always bugs me for some reason.

and bababooey talking to that vegas chick is a classic commercial!

To be fair--some of the less than reputable ones have been playing on different SIRIUS channels well before Howard came aboard. But as far as I'm concerned they're all so painstakingly annoying to the extent I can't even listen...like having your ears stabbed with a fucking ice pick! Jesus, how did I ever survive without a replay and/or recording unit?!
