Default It seems Howard just doesn't like doing the show anymore.

Today's show proves how much Howard and the main Stern cast dislike their jobs, and really don't want to be there.

If this were really such a critical situation where people NEEDED to be evacuated, then what were John Hine and BaBa Booey doing continuing on with the After-Show? Not to mention the gay channel, as well as Benjy, et al.

This, plus the seemingly incessant vacations, just shows Howard and the main crew are just going through the motions.

Don't get me wrong, I still love the show, but it kind of sucks knowing Howard doesn't really want to be there.

I have to disagree with you on this. I think Howard is much more committed to his work now than he has been in a long time. Living very close to NYC myself I was very concerned about this gas leak myself. I know you can't compare it to what happened on 9-11 but 9-11 showed us what could happen. Like I have said in an earlier post today, I would have left myself. I do think Artie wanted out but Howard struggled with either leaving or staying.

Okay, but why was it only the likes of Howard, Fred, and Robin that left (and Artie)? Like I said, John Hine and Gary stayed with no issue.

The news reports said that the evacuated people were allowed back in their buildings after about an hour or so. This would have put them around the time for the Wrap-Up show. As to why Howard wasn't there? Well, when has he ever been on the Wrap-Up show? Gotta admit, if Out-Q was bagging on him, he better get some clips and comment on them tomorrow. That'll be hilarious.

You know I think it becomes a personal judgement call. Yeah chances were that it was nothing. Gary, Ben, John could have just left as well but as Benji said it meant more air time for him, hehe, and the problem was outside not in the building. I still don't know the facts of what happened with the gas leak. Have they determined yet where it was coming from?

The Wrap-Up show was 2 hours long, picking up Howard's slack.

Yeah, it was a judgement call, but look who made their "judgement" to leave.

i feel like before the vacation he was amped, and after the vacation he's been like most people at their jobs. still kinda in that ramp-up mode.

as for vacation time that was brought up a bit on this thread and brought up numerous times in others; just to put things in perspective, think of every daily tv show: letterman, leno, conan, the daily show. letterman tapes his friday show earlier in the week, conan's off mondays, the daily show has off on Fridays, and i honestly don't really pay attention to what leno does.

these are all hour long shows-- and Howard puts in 4-5 solid hours, and probably more for prep time. everyone wants new shows EVERY day but there has to be some perspective when setting our expectations as an audience.

Howard stayed when planes hit the towers... today, he left because of a bad smell that he was told was no big deal during the show... any more questions? Jesus Christ, as soon as somebody said, "what's that smell?", Artie was out the door.

I don't see it as they wanted out of the studio at all. Howard didn't want to leave so much as it was close to when they should be wrapping up the show anyway. 4 hours is a good long show. I had no problem with it also considering the situation. After 9/11 no one can be too sure of the info coming into the studio.

Cool

I don't blame Howard for leaving when he did. He already did a full show and after all that went down, it broke his rhythm. I've been in situations like that and even when you try to stay, your mind keeps thinking whether you should go or not and whether you have all the information.

I was more surprised by Artie's comments to Howard 100 News. Man, it seems like he really does not like to be at the show anymore. The way he was talking about he just wanted to get out of there. He was practically saying he was using the gas scare as an excuse to take off. I forgot the exact comment but, I remember it sounded very harsh.

Most people who work in NYC is a little "gun shy" after 9-11 so it's very easy to comment about someone playing it cautious and leave the city but I don't blame them. It's easy to call everyone a pussy who left early but you can't be to careful working in NYC these days.

At first I thought the same thing. It's hard to tell for sure. He seemed to kind of be forced out by the yes men and even fans who were idiots. Now Artie....I don't think he has anymore love for the show anymore. I think Howard does but not as much as he used to. He was into Sirius in the begining but now with the numbers game every five seconds and all the pressure that really isn't his to feel, he is burdened and probably wants out.

Howard should have a serious (or Sirius) talk with Artie because that kind of shit kills everyone's work ethic and I honenstly think it is having an effect on the whole gang. At one point Artie joked about a Thrusday show and I kind of sensed him being serious about it. If you don't want to be there, people can fill your seat but please make it Jackie or Billy and not some crap like Levy!

Man... read the news. The Howard Stern Show was not the only one affected by the gas smell.
