Default Artie remembers?

Artie said something yesterday that made me wonder. He said he was surprised to see that the voice of Spongebob was done by Tom Kenny, a fellow comedian who he claims to have known. It's hard for me to imagine that Artie didn't know his old friend hadn't disappeared into obscurity. Tom was a featured player in Mr.Show on HBO in the mid to late 90's and has been performing on stage for many years now. The fact that he's the main voice of the single most popular childrens show and has a working resume that towers over Artie makes Artie's claim sound so ridiculous.

Artie should stop daydreaming about Derek Jeter and go pick a couple of Mr. Show DVD box sets. Sheeeesh.

I think it's funny that IMDB lists 169 movies and TV shows that Kenny has worked on but only 22 for Artie.

Yeah, I mean for a guy who is supposed to be a showbiz friend you'd think Artie would have heard 'something' about his career in over ten years. Mr.Show alone should have been enough. The fact that Artie has never seen that show is disappointing to me.

Is this a trick question? Or is your question an attempt at slamming Tom's career by asking the question in the first place?

Tom Kenny is a guy who is crazy funny and obviously flies under the radar of name recognition to the masses, but if you dig a little deeper you might find him to be a funny fellow. Mr.Show may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I can't see how fans of the Stern show wouldn't find Mr.Show to be funny.

He's not exactly a mainstream name, regardless of his accomplishments. My kids have watched SpongeBob for years and had no idea of the name of the guy that does the voice. And it's not like Mr. Show was some widespread phenomenon. I watched it a few times but couldn't recognize more than the two main guys. Despite Artie being a comedian, he's a sports guy. I'm sure he spends much more time watching ESPN than HBO...

I get that. But in the comedy scene in and around L.A. both Bob & David are revered in the same way some stand up comedians are refered to as a 'comedian's comedian', only Bob & David should be more widely recognized.

I watched the Flintstones and Popeye cartoons for years and I still don't know who did the voices, but Tom Kenny is known not only in the world of animation geeks and such, but also in the world of stand up comedy. It was strange to me that Artie(who considered himself a friend of Tom) would have absolutely no idea of his success, relative to it being massive or cultish, or both. It just tells me that he's never seen Mr.Show, a show that I think was the funniest show on television for about three years.

Seasons two and three being the best, if you're interested. It's sort of like 'Kids in the Hall' minus all of the gay shit.
