Howard could have used some of his $80 million dollar bonus to keep Penny if he wanted.

But then the same people who complain about the "$80 million dollar bonus" will complain about the fact that he sold off some of his shares of stock that actually made up his bonus. Don't believe me? Look at the thread about his bonus. His bonus was in stock options and unless Penny want's to work for stocks (which would lead to more sell offs in order for her to keep from blowing cops), it can't "keep" anything. Sirius is trying to become cash positive. Actual cash expenditures have to be cut for that to happen. This is just one way of doing it.

So Howard says she was fired because of budget cuts?? You would think that with the station exceeding its subscriber goals and Howard getting a big bonus because of it that the budget would go up rather than down.
I'm sensing that Howard is not being totally up front. He sounded like he was trying to gloss over the whole thing when Artie forced him to talk about it. I understand Howard getting rid of her because she is an angry nut but he should be honest about it if that is the true story.

I was listening this morning when Artie brought up the topic. I think he asked if they were allowed to talk about it. Howard clearly didn't want to talk about it but the cat was already out of the bag. I lost the online stream right at that point and don't know exactly what he said.

That was very strange. Guess there are topics that are forbidden again....Here we go again. No mention of George Flowers!

Maybe it's just my opinion, but I think the show took a big hit a few years ago with both Allison and Jackie leaving the fold. Everything became kind of dishonest and Howard was very lazy about things. Everyone seemed to lie so feelings wheren't hurt (remember when Artie pouted like a bitch when his first Conan appearance was criticized) and nobody wanted Howard, especially to be "bummed out". You know how everyone says if you don't like it, don't listen. Well, I didn't totally stop but I wasn't as admitant. I honestly felt like I almost stopped listening for a few years and only really made sure to listen when interesting things came up in world events. And then I felt the show got it's groove back right before they left, and when they got to Siruis, it was just like the old show. I really hope they don't go back to those days (the ripping on JD suggests and Howard with his wedding and/or his love child), and I realize that the Penny thing isn't the same thing, but with the spike in vacation time and Fridays off, I feel it's the next step. I sure hope not!

i think the big point is being missed here. Do u really need HOWARD STERN news? it's so goofy. Why not fill in those little slots with classic bits maybe? Superfan roundtable and the Intern Show can go too. yawners. The Wrap Up Show is so-so but can be kept i suppose.

Agreed 100%. Actually, I think the news is slowly being phased out - but until they figure out what else to put in the new longer breaks to keep them long, they will keep the news around. They seem reluctant to do as you said, and play classic bits, because that would take away from playing the entire stale old shows like they do now on the off days and vacations.

If the news wasn't censored from interesting stories, it would be more interesting but I do feel it's being phased out as well. I don't know about classic bits in it's place. The live show should speak for itself and if in the heat of the moment a classic bit comes up (like it did this week with "Mama...."), great! I don't think they need more bumpers than they already have! I could never go back to a Best Of type show after MTT. And those coundtdowns of bits tend to be annonying and overlong (the year end countdown, anyone). Might as well put bits in context of play them when they come up on the live show. Anything else doesn't work.

When they played 'mama' I noticed two things, as did Howard on one point and that is, Artie had obviously never heard 'mama'. Artie asked, "what's with the helicopter noise?". Howard shot back in the 'mama' voice, "Hey man, I thought you was a fan?".

The second thought is...after hearing the entire segment play out on an original live show I at least now know what the Friday Show would've sounded like if the principle players were on the show.
