Default Am I the only one that hope sirius and XM never merge??

I definitely do not want that. I have a feeling that as soon as that happens, they'll raise the price. and I pay yearly, so I don't want that. plus I think its good to have competition to keep everyone on their toes and putting out the best product. What do you guys think about this?

I think that IF that happens, O&A would face another cease and desist arrangement from upper management...AND they would again...oblige.

I would hope so!

In answer to Beanie's question, I'm with you and these talks are creeping me out. Howard seems to be very interested in it because it will make the stock go up but he truly doesn't seem to care about all the people at Sirius that will be out of job since they will have to combine stations. It makes to sense to have stations that do the same exact stuff like the Big 80 and XM's generically titled 80s! It will only hurt Sirius, I think. The commerical filled music channels will come to Sirius but I'm sure good Sirius music channels will be watered down or destoryed. It shouldn't be too bad for me since favorites of mine have XM equivlanets which might be better but there are songs that Sirius plays that I never hear ont he radio anymore and I'm sure those will be gone when XM comes in! Terrible! I think it will only be bad for customers, but good for Howard's bank account!

I wonder how the new spin will evolve if XM's commercial plagued music stations take over from those currently on Sirius?

I have no idea but it's probably the begining of the end of satelite radio! Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe those commerical radio stations are pre-exisiting in New York, right? I really hope that deal ends and they dump them but I'm sure if there is a merger and they still have those around at that time, they will stay.

I'm in agreement that a merger would not be good. With the competion factor included, here is what our new merged lineup might look like:

Monday and Tuesday: 6 - 10 O & A
Thursday and Friday : 6 - 10 Ron and Fez
Wednesday : 6 - 6:30 Howard Stern*
Wednesday : 6:30 - 10 MTT

*Excluding vacations, any weeks that contain any day slightly resembling a holiday, etc.

I want Major League Baseball but XM has it. If the two merged I would have Howard and every major sport in the country on my radio.

that may be a disadvantage, but if they combined, there would be no incentive for sirius to keep the prices where they're at. kinda like how the cable companies raise prices constantly every year. no matter what you think of xm, they are still the leader and I believe that allows them to force sirius to keep the price reasonable. u think that if they don't combine, that sirius wouldn't raise the prices so they can start re-coupping some of that "howard money" they've paid out so far?

I don't think the Howard money is that big of a problem....although budget cuts would beg to differ, maybe. You got keep in mind, those other original programs aren't free either. I don't think Nina Blackwood, for example, makes near Howard money but probably not a pitance either. And there are how many other DJs or people with musical programs? And that's just the music DJs....how about paying for the music, which has gone up....and then you have the talk show hosts. I don't think Howard money is a problem. If it was, prices would have gone up already and Howard fans would gladly pay them.

I honestly don't get how stock works...why is Sirius so low and XM so high when the difference between the subscribers isn't that great. I would have to assume it's because XM's programming is so much cheaper they don't have that much big name talent....also, I'm sure they are making a ton of money by adding Clear Channel stations. I don't know what I'm talking about since I know so little of XM, too.

Ok, but don't you think the merger will ulitmately weaken at least the musical programming by adding commerial filled stations? I think that will be the biggest drawback since it's the one thing that seems to draw so many people to both. The only thing I want from XM would be baseball and maybe the African American talk station (they have OutQ on Sirius but no black talk?...BTW, I'm sure the prudes at XM will have nothing to do with gays, so out goes OutQ for sure).

Hey buddy! Good to see you are back from the "5-Minute Major for High-Sticking a Troll." Very glad it wasn't a long term suspension, you'd have been missed.
