Default Orgin of soundbite...Guy falling down stairs yelling

I can't find that page on Wikipedia that discusses the origins of most of the sound effects heard on the show. An oldie but a goodie is what sounds like a guy falling down the stairs. I just realized after listening to a record where it might have came from and I'm kind of surprised they found this.

On the Prince produced and written album (although the credits suggest something different but he is under the name Jamie Starr and he gave out writing credits to give the group credibility) by the girl group Vanity 6, there is a song titled "He's So Dull" (which I've heard was the one song actually written by guitar player pre-Revolution, Dez Dickerson), which was a single after the monster "Nasty Girl". Anyway, at the end of the video and song, there is this sound bite of a guy falling down the stairs (makes more sense on the video) and it's definately the same bit they play. Again, just kind of surprised they found this clip since the song wasn't a big hit and probably not WNBC faire! Wonder who found it. Or maybe did the song steal the clip from somewhere. Just thought it was interesting.

Check out the video and listen, watch the very end. On the record, it makes no sense, but it makes sense in the silly ending of the video. And the girls are all hot....Even the dyke character (which Prince created) of Brenda is looking good.

Fred played that sound clip last February when I was on the phone talking to Howard about the massive snowstorm that blanketed New York. Howard was saying even though he was wearing Catepillar workboots he still had no traction on the sidewalk and was saying "I'm gonna fall" and how Beth was waiting for Howard to catch up and having no problem walking on ice at all. I actually thought at time, I wonder where that clip is from and have continued to wonder from time to time as it's played occasionally. Is it two clips put together or is it all one clip, it sounds like a guy falling and yelling at the same time followed by a squeeky matress sound.

That is a standard sound effect that's been available as part of "Sound Effects" collections since probably the 1960's. People used to buy sound effects records with crash sounds, thunderstorms, etc. sometimes to test the channel seperation or sound quality of their stereo systems, and local stations used them for dressing up commercials. That one's been used for years. I remember using that exact sound clip from one of those Sound Effects albums for a commercial at a station I worked at in the mid 80's.

Thank you. I wasn't 100% sure about that cause it not only sounded old but out of place! Prince (and Howard) must have bought it. Guess I was wrong but thanks for the real answer.
