I have a Kenwood. Sirius ready. If I sign up for a year, is this what I need to get started? Or does this not work for me? TIA.

I would jut pickup a kenwood SR901 Sirius tuner and a antenna. You will get better sound. Or order the free one just for the antenna.

Getting interesting.... The radio comes activated? Shopping with creditcard on an unsecured site? Copying Sirius's design and logo without affiliation? Asking for 1 year commitment when Sirius does not require commitment on their free offer?

Don't get me wrong, I value the forum you set up, but I'm sensitive for ethical questions.

To start off with Mr Ethics, this deal is in fact being conducted by a SIRIUS employee actually, which sets up the billing and activates them prior to shipping. The unsecured site is just to get the basic information, while the last 4 digits of the credit card need to be either emailed in or phoned in. Or if you feel more comfortable you could do it all on the phone. This deal does require a committment as that is a stipulation for getting FREE equipment.

Can you provide anything other than your rant to indicate that this particular Friends and Family deal does not require a one year committment or that there is something illegal or inappropriate going on? We have many folks here that have in fact gotten this deal when it was previously offered and their equipment arrived as promised. There is NOTHING unethical about it and shame on you for indicating such with absolutely NO evidence to indicate otherwise except your own hang up with ethics.

Boy is it! You think you've got it bad in Charleston, you should try Huntington. In just the last two weeks we had a tolerable soft rock station go hard rock (making it the FIFTH one in town), a decent AM standards station go 1/2 Jesus-freak talk radio - 1/2 informercials (adding to at least six gospel/fire-and-brimstone stations), and the local oldies station rumored to be switching to God knows what. There's nothing left here but God, Garth Brooks and Grunge, and I'VE HAD IT. It is literally 100% of the reason I'm taking Sirius up on this offer.

(It didn't help that 94.5 in Charleston, which we can get in most of Huntington, itself went from 80s to deadly dull, monotonous hard rock. Who's listening to this crap?)

Default Switching Audiovox between car and home

I could have sworn I read it in this thread someplace, though I can't find it now - perhaps it was elsewhere in the forum - that there are ways to jerry-rig your Audiovox system to go back and forth between your car and your home. Since the state of AM/FM here has turned completely intolerable over the last few weeks, this is something i'm very much interested in doing with my Audiovox unit.

Can someone provide a pointer? Thanks....

Default About the antenna???

I ordered my kit directly with John the other evening. He alluded that the Audiovox kit does not come with an antenna, but (to my content) he said he would include an antenna with my order. I was curious to know what type of antenna he's been including in these packages? Has anybody recieved their's yet? Is it a roof mounted Terk? Or Audiovox I was asked to wait until the next batch of systems is shipped.... I hope it's soon, real soon!!! Thanks!

Nothing is inappropriate or illegal. Unethical not pass on all benefits of a free offer. This one is free with the $100 Sirius rebate: [Link removed by Site Admin] with no commitment. It's not Sirius who requires the annual commitment. That's all about the business side.

My first rant was about the usecure order. It's quite unusual when secure hosting is widely available for cheap. This is not the way we handle financial and private info in 2003. That's about the technical side.

I just do not understand why the unit comes activated. Could you please elaborate that why is this happening?

Yes. You call Sirius Customer Care once you receive it and have it installed to request another activation 'hit'.

You're not shopping, we're simply sending your address and info via email to the Sirius Rep in charge of this program. A credit card number is worthless without the last four digits and we do not ask for that.

We have permission to use their logo.

Sounds like a nice tradeoff considering your getting $250 worth of hardware for free.

What's with all the skepticism?!?

WHOA! We'd best get this straightened up right here. The deal clearly states, in the very first post of this thread:

Quote:
Audiovox Kit including tuner, FM-modulator, controller and antenna
If there's no antenna, there will be no Sirius subscription from me.

I'm sure this is just a miscommunication between you and John, but I'd like to see that confirmed here...

Unethical?!? How is paying $100 up front, and then having to mail in a rebate and wait 6-8 weeks any different? If you are going to keep the service active anyway, why harp on ther service commitment.

This program came together very quickly and we do not have the time nor resources to set up a full blown secure transaction form. I appreciate your concern, but this is working just fine for everyone for the time being.

There is a deadline for activating the tuner. If you do not activate the tuner within 4 weeks of receipt you will be charged for a full year of service upfront. To avoid this, John the Sirius rep is activating the units in advance as a courtesy. You have to activate it anyway, why is this an issue?

Jeff is making money on the friends any family program. On the contrary, I have no affiliation with the site he cited.

If you are not affiliated with the linked site, please accept my apologies. However your rhetoric is very suspect.

As for me collecting any revenue from the Sirius Friends & Family program, that is absolutely not true. This site collects no advertising or financial compensation except for the generous donations that people provide for stickers. This site's mission is and always has been simply to spread awareness about Sirius. I'm sorry you believe otherwise.
