Default First Look: SIRIUS Holiday Preview

http://www.siriusbackstage.com/blog/s503.jpg[/img:feb2a5ed35]We just returned from the SIRIUS Holiday Preview. Clearly, the two standout products are the S50 and the Starmate Replay. Without gushing too much, the product is an amazing marvel, with a beautiful design and intuitive content management scheme. It will learn your 3 favorite channels, based on listening habits and begin to fill itself up with fresh content when docked, either in the car, home kit or the 'RoomBoom' desktop music stand. You can also 'Love' a song, which will record the complete song. You can love as many songs as you'd like and they will be recorded to the device.

http://www.siriusbackstage.com/blog/s502.jpg[/img:feb2a5ed35]Visually, the color screen provides a rich display, including all of the song and artist data, stunning backgrounds and menus as well as. The S50 comes bundled with software and can be docked to a PC via USB so you can upload MP3/WMA files from your music collection. It automatically makes room for uploaded content, by deleting the oldest stored content first. The bundled software features the SIRIUS webcast in a new skin, as well as drag and drop playlist management.

The device is extremely small and lightweight, it makes an iPod look big. The battery is user replaceable and features 6 hours of portable power. Audio voice cues will speak the channel and category names when tuning. More details on the S50 later.

Other new products include the SIRIUS One, a dash/sunvisor tuner, a SIRIUS Connect tuner for Sony satellite-ready headunits, an Alpine tuner with SIRIUS Plus Traffic, a GM SIRIUS Connect tuner and updated versions of the Audiovox and JVC plug-n-plays featuring the same pause/timeshift of the Sportster Replay.

Wow. That's awesome! I think I've found a replacement for my Audiovox PNP 1.

...It'll be interesting to see if they release a firmware update to allow the unit to be used horizontally as well...especially for the car dock setup.

Sign me up, boys!

The info card says $359. Although, that does include the Car Dock.

correct me if I am wrong- but was it mentioned on last month's conference call they were going to come out with cheaper units with more features?- According to the PC Mag links the Audiovox and JVC units are MSRP @ $170?- I know they have the replay features but are they going to have units that are new with features w/o the replay feature?

I hope that is a typo, Sirius does need some cheap units other than Sirius ONE.

Is $170 inclusive of the car kit?

If so, the price is a little more understandable... IIRC, the PNP2 cost $50 but the car kits were $100.

I think some of us are forgetting how awesome the Starmate Replay is, for only $129!

Yea the starmate does look promising... I prefer the more squarish sportster though. I am happy with my decision still.

Default Sirius "Still" Needs a Walkman

Nice bells and whistles, but still not a Walkman/MyFi type radio. Unfortunately, this looks like a profound waste of time.
:\
I want to listen to Howard and LOC live on the train and walking to work, like millions of his fans do. I drive for only a small fraction of my 2 hour commute, and don't want to only listen to recorded material

When will there be a fully functional, small, walkman that can actually receive a decent live signal? That's what we need, at an affordable price.

I like my Xact Pod, but it is not practical. This is yet another cruel joke. :\ :\

I've been scouring these threads and Google looking for more info on the GM SIRIUS Connect tuner. I currently have a Kenwood 903 tuner and PIE aux input device that translates the Sirius signal into my factory XM unit. The good news is that this works at all. Sadly, it is only about 90% "good to go". I'm hoping the GM SIRIUS Connect tuner will do a better job.

Does anyone know where I can find more info on this?

Thanks,
Red
