My reactions:

POSITIVES
-This lineup does make Sirius the Rock leader, everything from 80s hair bands to 60s & 70s rare tracks to acoustic rock to punk (somewhat) to first wave and indie/garage music.

-Pop is also doing well, 12 channels spanning over 5 decades of music and an international station.

-Between Broadway, the Jazz stations, and the standard/swing station, and the newly added Coffeehouse & New Age stations, doesn't Sirius take the "Adult Music" category from XM?

-Lots of NAME power - Elvis, Broadway station in NYC, Buffet, Eminem, BBC, Cousin Bruce/Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, Howard Stern, Big 80s reunion of 80s MTV DJs.

-LOTS of sports - NFL, NBA, NHL, College Football & Basketball, NASCAR ('07), English Soccer, Wimbledon - WOW!

-Separate categories for Women & Families is a great move, & NO pre-empting of the Kids channel, Comedy channels, Martha channel, Gay channel for Sports which is the right move, let those listeners have their alternative listening choices!

-Classic Dance station in the form of revamped Strobe!

-Public news radio lineup (BBC, 2 NPRs, PRI, World Radio News) is VERY impressive!

-As is the conservative talk lineup (Yes I know Doyle and Church are annoying lol) - Patriot, Right, daytime hours of ABCNews, the new Christian Talk lineup.

QUESTIONS/CONCERNS

-If they were going to put "Remix" DJ mixshows on other dance stations, they would've leaked it to GetSirius Blog or Backstage already to prevent sudden cancellations - they're ALL likely gone.

-Regarding censorship, hey Sirius, where are the uncensored versions of AltNation, First Wave & Hot Jamz? Oh they're not on the schedule - you lied?!

-And how in the h-e-l-l are they gonna censor Faction's talk shows? Is Sirius paying Bam or anyone else a big enough check to get them to censor themselves and not walk away? Or will they bleep their discussions to death?

- How many 'eclectic'/'genre-breaking' stations does Sirius have now - Disorder, Chill, Faction, Underground Garage, SuperShuffle (The Bridge & Spectrum too)?

-I like the addition of Christian Rock since it's not actually available in most areas, especially rural. We 'kinda' have it in Tampa but there's a TON of pop on the same station. For the same reason, the ONE type of AM station I can pick up travelling from Tylertown, MS to Crystal River, FL and Tifton, GA among other rural spots is Christian Talk, so will people buy Satellite to listen to the same thing they can get for free?

-Will Howard Stern prank call the Christian station? Or will the station lead an intra-company campaign to get him fired/bring on the FCC/make him a limited 'premium' station? (No I'm NOT kidding, Stern acolytes have already pranked the Gay station, it's likely they'll move onto other stations at some point).

-It should be easy to start a flamewar between OutQ & the Christian Talk channel when Gay Marriage Bans arrive on the ballot next year in more states.

-Well, like him or loathe him, Jesse was right - 2 minority stations are gone - Wax and Slow Jamz. So for a category HipHop/Rap that's DOMINATING the FM airwaves AND CD sales, Sirius is only providing 6 channels, and 3 of them are edited (Hot Jamz, Heart&Soul & Soul Revue nka Soul Town)?? And NO FUNK?? So what type of listeners are important Sirius 'cause you found 14 streams for Rock??

-So 45-48% of the electorate (see recent Pres & Senate elections) likes Lib ideas and over 60 stations in most major markets have AA, but Sirius can't have 2 Lib stations? Again, what types of customers are you trying to attract Sirius?

-And why did Sirius put EWTN's Spanish-language station in the "International" category? Did it stop being religious?

-Where is the spot for the "Chinese" channel supposed to be added next year?

-Won't the Kids 2 music channels sound awful w/the Talk bitrate?

-If Richard Simmons is going to be on Sirius Stars (see the channel listing), then WHAT is Lime going to be? If it's just Wisdom, is the corp. paying for airtime?

-NO Canadian block even though it's being added in the fall; only accessible w/receivers w Canadian addresses?

- Will HispanicTalk 181 FINALLY be programmed or will it remain vacant and basically play UniversoLatino's playlist at a much crappier bitrate?

I wonder if some other station will pick up some of the folk stuff? I plan on calling CS and seeing what they have to say. Follktown is a unique station, especially with the Bob Dylan Radio Hour!!!

Default Canadian Channels

Is there a reason none of the new Canadian channels are listed? Will they be available to all subs in both the US and Canada? I hope so, it would only add to the variety!

Anyone know?

OK, Here are my comments

I'm glad new age is finally back but Spa73??? They could've called it Soundscapes.

Super Shuffle? Hmm, sounds like a copycat to me, too

Sirius Advice. I'll give this a listen. I'll assume then like it says that shows on Sirius Talk Central (soon Sirius Stars) that air on the weekends will move there allowing new shows to be added.

This article mentions XM Paying $200 Million for More Spectrum

http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2005/...ap2137594.html

I don't understand, if XM can do this Sirius should too.

It would have been nice to have bruer and all the other raw dog talk shows get an additional channel. There are times when crap is playing on the other comedy channel and I do not feelike listening to raw dog talk.

I don't know if it is an accurate assumption that just because it has a 100+ number that they will have a low bitrate.

Yes, very sad. Ive seen surveys were 75% of the satellite radio market is over 35, but the programming , especialy in R&B/Urban is heavily skewed to the lower end. Lets see if Soul Town gets a facelift in programming-

Totally unimpressed with the changes in music. I don't get the Sirius fascination with variety rock stations. We have the Spectrum, Disorder and now Super Shuffle. Disorder jumps genres a lot so I see that one being different. But Spectrum and Super Shuffle???

I 'm really disappointed that the over 60 yr olds who like childrens punk music weren't catered for. Maybe next time....

Well, if they are trying to target the younger generation then they need to start looking at a lite version, say just music for half the price. Maybe show a college ID and get a free diaper *oops* I mean a free six month sub. They should also have a really inexpensive, no frills, receiver - along the lines of a disposable camera.

I agree, I think its time Sirius considers adding ala carte options to its subscription plans. At this point the only streams that hold any interest for me after the reshuffle takes effect are the 2 remaining urban adult music streams, the 2 Stern streams, and the NFL and NBA streams. I'd love to have access to those streams only and pay less than 13 bucks per month.

Overall, I'm pleased with the new lineup. The only exception would be the loss of "Remix". I would have preferred for "Boombox" or "Chill" to have been cut, but I can understand why they chose "Remix" (because some of the mix shows from that channel can be incorporated into other channels like "the Beat" and "Area 33").
But overall, I'm happy. I am MOST excited about the new "SuperShuffle" channel. I love the "Jack FM"/Adult-Variety Hits format. It's one of the few things on FM that I have listened to lately and like. And I am glad that Sirius is bringing it to satellite radio (and beating XM to the punch). I am sure that it will be even better than the FM version of the "Jack- we play anything" format. It will definately be a new preset for me on my first band. (probably taking the place of the preset I had set for "Remix"). Also, I am glad that new age is returning to Sirius full time. The coffee house thing might be interesting too. I just hope it isn't too obscure with unknown artists like XM's "Loft" or "XM Cafe" channels. Anyway, these new additions (along with favorites like Radio Margaritaville and BBC Radio 1 that have been added in the past months) make Sirius that much better for me, and I'm very happy with the Big Dog!
Also, I can't wait for the new S50 portable/recorder. All I can say is, YES!!!!!! I've been b*tching about wanting a portable and the delay of the ReGo, and now I am so happy. This is so much better than the ReGo was going to be, and will work perfectly for me at work. (Anyone need a used MyFi, because mine is gonna be gathering dust when the S50 finally comes out!! I'll definately be buying it the day it comes out and adding a 3rd subscription for the S50.)
Anyway, I'm happy with the new announcements and think Sirius is better than ever.
