Not to sound like an idiot, but what is New Age/Ambient music?
Tune in tomorrow and find out. Its great music when you are in traffic and about to go postal. Good music to listen to while you read a book, not good to listen to when you are tired and you are driving.
So that means it will be great to fall asleep to?
Yes it is, very relaxing. I won't listen 24/7 but I will have it as a preset.

*Sigh*

Just a major dissapointment overall. A bunch of new channels I could care less about, and I lose one of my favorites. Plus...they didn't even fix the horrible sounding dance channels that are still left. I hate to say it but my days with Sirius may be numbered.

Well you've got to do what you've got to do. I am VERY pleased with the changes. I don't even know which one of these channels to listen too I like them all. It sounds to me like you've not given any of these channels a real chance, you are just bitter cause one of your channels you liked got yanked and that is far as you've gotten with it.

Shuffle, Coffee House and Spa... 3 GREAT adds as far as I am concerned.

No offense but I remember the last 2 changes even when they added channels to the Dance Category Dance fans were not happy. Now they aren't happy again. I can't help but wonder if its possible to make dance fans happy because you all seem too scattered in exactly what it is you really like or want. In reading the forum most of you can't even agree among yourselves what you want or like. OH I understand loosing a favorite channel as I have lost them myself in the past, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the other channels. Then again I am not locked into one genre of music either, so maybe that is why.

I sure wish you felt differently about it, the main thing is for you to do whatever makes you happy.

Default MOVING ON....

XM has a great online trial. 3 days free. They are selling their roadie for 45 bucks ? I'm gonna drop one Sirius and pick up XM for sure. They have Folk/Standards/Americana and all kinds of unique streams.

I may be abandoning Sirius completly. Never thought I'de say that !

Hell I like it! Will be great to just kick back and relax too, over all the "New Channels" seem to be pretty good for me anyways, but I still miss VACATION SO MUCH!

I am not locked into any genre at all. I love soft rock, alternative, pop and hip-hop. I also enjoy many of the talk stations. But guess what...I can get all that crap on AM and FM radio.

And you're actually right about dance fans in general not agreeing too much, which is why I am SHOCKED that so many in the dance forum have so strongly agreed to that Remix should have stayed and Boombox is a joke. It's so simple thats why it's so ridiculous...we want a true dance hits station that doesn't mix in hip-hop and non-dance, less repitition, and a seperate Trance and House channel. That's three channels. All we need. Instead we got five "dance" stations and only two of them actually play dance music, and one of them plays mostly underground obscure stuff.

If you can get all that on FM, then I totally miss the point as to why you have Sat Radio. If I could have gotten all that locally on FM with no commercials, all the morning and evening drive shows, I'd jumped on it like a big dawg. The only problem is that for most of that that just isn't true.

You know there was a thread about Sirius sending out Survey's. I wonder how many Dance fans gave them so many various answers that they couldn't really tell what anyone wanted. I mean I've watched threads in the dance category and I was like damn... these guys argue with each other about what Sirius should or shouldn't have and no more than 2 or 3 of them can agree on much of anything. I think Boombox is more popular that folks seem to think. Dance fans have hated it since the first day Sirius put it on the service. Yet it seem to have gained a following anyway. I've seen many, many post saying they like it. You make some valid points, but the shirts made a decision and I am sure it was based on something, rather it was survey's, consultants etc, I can't really say. By the way NOT all dance fans said it should stay, I seen some that said they didn't really care for it.

I am a bit disappointed to see The Weather Channel go away while Las Vegas is still NOT represented under Traffic and Weather on 184.

The Weather/Emergency Channel's West Regional bit takes too long to scroll over to my area (when it is on West). Sure, it's Vegas, so I can expect Hot most of the year and Cold the rest, so why would I need weather? RAIN. When it rains here, it floods, and I have already lost one car to flood damage since moving here.

I contacted Sirius about adding Vegas to Traffic/Weather, and they told me that is a great idea. In the meantime, I will just switch to local stations when I get ready for work. Shame too, because once they add Las Vegas AND have Howard Stern on, I won't need to listen to local radio ever again.

Kimmie, hating local radio, but glad I only had to update 3 presets (Talk Left and the two comedy stations).

The new lineup is great although I can only attest to the new Jimmy Buffet and Stones streams. That's all I've been listening to accept the traffic stream.

Good thing too because I was leaving Wash DC toward Baltimore and I always take the old Harbor Tunnel in Bmore. All the out of towners take the new tunnel and the old one has never failed me.

So as soon as I got on the ramp there was a traffic jam. I was listening to the Stones instead of the traffic. I noticed no cars were heading south and a lot of cars took the emergeny road across the highway that only cops can use.

I turned the traffic channel on and it said they said everyone should take the new tunnel because the old one was backed up and would be for hours. Like some other cars I took the illegal cutoff and went south to the beltway and over to the new tunnel and made it home in 40 mins.

As I pulled into the driveway I got the traffic stream on again and it said the old tunnel was still backed up. I still would have been there.

Thanks Siri and shame on me for not listening to the traffic stream to begin with.

Now this is what Spa73 should be- or maybe it will be- or hell is- they are playing "The Dance by George Winston" very relaxing it's 4:54 am, but hell this is the first song I know that they've played, but either way I love this station for just chilling out too, drinking my morning coffee . Sirius!

Default Crossposted Thoughts about Sirius Advice

The Sirius Advice channel is very disappointing! This was the channel I was most looking forward to, and it could have been done so well. There are many very good syndicated advice shows out there that I would love to listen to, including:

Dr. Joy Browne
Bruce Williams
Loveline

and so many more that I could even tolerate including:

The Dolans
Jim Cramer
Car Talk
Dr. Laura
Kim Kommando
Dean Adell
Bob Brinker
Bill Handel

There also used to be a 12-step recovery program in Canada that I used to listen to that would be interesting late at night.

Instead, Sirius through Dave Ramsey together with a hodgepodge of personality shows that have little to no advice content and random other shows that they couldn't find a place for. I mean, come on!

I live in the Central time zone. That means that my morning drive would be Kid's Corner and my afternoon drive is World Cafe, a music show! Don't we already have 2 kids stations and about 70 music stations that would be a better fit for this show?

And the other shows on the schedule are NOT advice shows! Doug Stephan's Good Day? Chick Chat? Mike Feder? Radio Playbill? Cigar Dave?

Listen very carefully, Sirius...this is the format of an ADVICE Show!

:05-:10 - Show intro and possible monologue
:10-:30 - Take calls and answer questions
:30-:32 - optional gimmicky segment
:32-:00 - More calls and answers
:00-:05 - Break for network news.

If your show doesn't look remotely like this, it shouldn't be on this station!

Being a dance fan myself (as well as just about every other genre), I can see how we all seem to disagree on everything. I do think there is one answer that would please 75% of us though. That would be for Sirius to create a dance hits channel ("the Beat"), an all trance channel, and an all house channel. They could also do an all breakbeat/drum and bass channel too. This way each genre would have it's own seperate channel that could exclusively play this type of music and feature mixes and other shows devoted to the particular genre. Granted, this "segregation" of the styles might not be very good for furthering the cause of getting mainstream recognition for dance music, but if Sirius wants to please the hardcore dance fans (instead of trying to draw in casual listeners), this would accomplish it. Here is how they could do it;
--Keep "the Beat" as the dance hits channel (with more pure club hits and less pop and hip hop remix crossovers).
--Make "Area 33" the pure trance channel with all kinds of trance (hard, vocal, euro/pop/trance, melodic, etc.) With mixshows and hosts focused on the trance scene.
--Dump "Chill" and create an all House channel devoted to all kinds of house, with house mixes, shows focusing on older house, progressive house, etc.
--Retool "Boombox" to make it a pure breakbeat/drum and bass/jungle channel. Simply drop the hip hop and add more breakbeats. This could include harder drum and bass stuff and more pop type breakbeat remixes of club hits.
--Keep "the Strobe" focused on classic dance from disco through the early 90s, with disco, freestyle, Hi NRG, old house, etc. from that era. Add mix shows for disco, freestyle, 80s and early 90s HiNrg/House, etc.

These changes would go a long way in making the majority of the dance fans happy and able to agree with each other. And the only channel that would be cut would be "Chill". (And that could be incorporated into other channels like "Spa 73".) Or they could keep "Chill" if they have the bandwith. Most dance fans don't seem to care much one way or the other about it. Anyway, these simple re-allignments and catagorizations would make most of us happy. The only problem is that Sirius doesn't seem to program this category to make the true, hard-core, dance fans happy, but instead they worry more about drawing in casual listeners and appealing more to the pop masses. (that's why all the pop/hip hop remixes are on "the Beat", and why "Boombox" tries to draw in hip hop fans, and why "Chill" plays accoustic rock crossovers, etc.). If they would simply make these changes and superserve the dance core with their own seperate channels, they would make the true dance fans much happier. As far as "drawing in the casual pop listener", I don't really think that is going to happen much anyway. And truth be known, a majority of the hardcore dance fans would just as soon it stay out of the mainstream anyway for fear of changes and commericalism. Anyway, just my two cents worth.
