Of course it is. Nature of the beast, I say.

I never listen to Fox News, so wouldn't miss it if it were gone. Others would and that's the essence of having a service that attempts to reach all audiences. On a practical level, if Sirius were to offer an alternative that I liked better and could only do so if Fox weren't occupying that slot, I'd not shed a tear (personally).

If Fox were to be gone, it would be for the same reason as when Air America left Sirius--a business decision. The left wasn't happy with that one and, I suspect, the right would be unhappy with the loss of Fox. But, personally, if I were advising Sirius I would not urge them to "break the bank" to keep Fox. The decision has to made in the context of the whole service. If the numbers don't work, forget it and move on.

Default Fox news is crucial....

Fox News is crucial to Sirius while they are still trying to attract new subscribers. I think it is very important to offer consumers as many choices as possible especially since Sirius is trying to convert average radio listeners to satellite radio. In a long term plan, they should then look to see what their subscribers want. What is the ratings nationally for Fox News vs. CNN on the radio?

Now personally I tend to listen to CNN but even I listen to Fox News ocassionally to get another opinion.

Fox News is doing promos all the time on the air for Fox News Talk, only on XM. I don't think that they can afford to let XM get the advantage by being the only one to carry Fox News Talk, and if they lose Fox News Channel well that is just stupid. AAR is struggling for an audience while Fox News Channel is number 1 by a large margin.

If Sirius loses it I will be mad because it will cost Sirius some subscribers, since I have XM and Sirius I would still have it.

Yes, but!!!!

Isn't Fox News Talk just part of the same old tired stuff we can hear ALL (and I mean ALL!) the time on everyday, ho-hum pedestrian terrestrial radio. I mean--without being political--isn't right wing talk all there is on AM (and some FM) radio?

So... why does Sirius absolutely have to have this more of the same channel??? Wouldn't it be better if they used the space to give us something we can't already get elsewhere?

Let XM give its subs more of the same. I vote that Sirius be bold and give us something more creative.

They could always replace Fox News Channel with MSNBC. I mean who cares that Fox has tens times more primetime viewers? Sirius could abandon everything that is mainstream and just broadcast eclectic narrowly focused niche programming. I mean why care how many subscribers you could lose by abandoning what is popular or wanted.

Subscribers we don't need no stinking subscribers.

Well, ten times sounds impressive until you look at the universe we're talking about. The numbers for cable news are still quite puny even against the #3 nightly newscast on the broadcast networks--CBS. So should Sirius rebroadcast the CBS Evening News? By your logic, they should because CBS has even more viewers than Fox News Channel.

My point remains the same. Why would anyone pay $156 a year for something they can get from their own local broadcast radio stations for free? I think Fox's importance here is greatly overstated.

I don't know of a single FM or AM station that broadcasts Fox News Channel. Do you?

Isn't FNC just a recycle/repackage of what they already run? O'Reilly, et al?
What's new there? I don't know of anything that's different. But if I'm wrong about that, I'll rethink what I've said here.

Like CNN, MSNBC, CNBC and Bloomberg Fon News Channel is a live feed of the what is on TV, So when there is breaking news you can go to it, or if you are in the car and want to hear a show you can hear it.

Well, yeah, then I see that. As I said at the top of all this, I'm ok with it being there (as well as CNN et al), but wouldn't miss it personally if it were gone because I never listen to/watch it myself.

Now C-SPAN and the BBC? That's another story... :-)

Happy Holiday

Fox News Channel and Sirius have to be in some kind of negotiation: last week, there was a full page Fox News Channel ad in the New York Post saying that XM is only satellite radio provider committed to airing Fox News programming (sorry, already recycled the newspaper).

It just appears that Fox News is applying some pressure to Sirius to carry their network. In the end, something will get done. Believe it or not, both sides need one another.

As much as I dislike Fox... I would like it to stay on the Sirius line up. I do listen to it sometimes, and like the varried news choices. This reminds me of the ESPN vs COX Communications battle awhile back. Both parties got a little nasty, but in the end COX aired ESPN. COX came out with a black eye from a public relations standpoint. The longer this drags out the worse it gets for Sirius.

I called up a Sirius CSR to complain/comment about this, and although we can never take what they say as gospel, the kid was adament about Fox News staying on Sirius. So take that w/ a grain of salt...

As I said in another post they need to pick it up.

Lose Sirius Patriot, and add Fox News Talk. Tony Snow who is on Sirius Right will move to Fox Talk, move Laura Ingraham from Patriot to Sirius Right. This also moves Allan Colmes to Fox Talk opening up a spot on Sirius left.

Then you can move G Gordon Liddy to Right from 3 to 6 afternoons (I wouldn't miss Jerry Doyle at all). Make Cam and Company (NRA News) a morning show from 6 to 9 with a replay at 6 to 9 at night. Move Mike Church to Sirius Stars where he belongs, he can quit talking politics and go back to his old show talking about rednecks, women and dudes.

I don't blame Fox for using the leverage that they have. In the meantime I hear Fox News Talk only on XM Radio, 5 or 6 times a day on my Sirius radio :\
