Default Samsung to offer the NeXus with Sirius?(Update 1)

Mobilemag/Gizmodo is reporting that Samsung will be offering a Sirius connection option on the NeXus model. While still unconfirmed as of yet, this might be due to XM's reluctance to release the NeXus, so Samsung had time to do a little retooling.

The Article

Update 1: The link no longer works, and I cannot find the article on either site anymore, BUT it is still on Google News if you search for Samsung Sirius. This either means 1) They let the cat out of the bag way too early, or 2) they posted it without confirming it, and it was not correct. Look to SBS to keep you updated through this story.

It looks like Samsung is giving Sirius a shot with their service on the neXus satellite mp3 player. Originally released for XM, the neXus is just like all the others, you can listen to the radio at home while the unit rests in its docking station and you can record the content to listen to later on, but you won’t be listening to live radio on the go.

Besides the recorded satellite content, you can also store and play MP3 and WMA files. It comes in 512MB and 1GB sizes. The 1GB model promises 50 hours of XM content, which is consistent with the Sirius model. An odd feature which some could find handy is the XM + Napster online service. If you hear a song on XM that you enjoy, you can tag it and purchase it on the service. No idea if that will work with the Sirius version, since there is no arrangement with Napster for that model.

The neXus measures in at 3.4”x1.9”x0.7”. Pricing and availability is still unavailable. A vehicle kit will be available for an extra cost.

Dual service subscriber since 8-25-06.

Hmm, interesting. If this is true I wonder if they are ditching the XM version, creating a Sirius and XM version seperate or put both in one device.

I wonder if this means Sirius is going to produce a Connect and Play product that works with XM enabled devices since the Nexus was supposed to be a C&P enabled device.

I personally don't give this rumor much creedence, but if true, I'm guessing that a C&P compatible module is in the works.

blame the RIAA.

they want to limit these tyope of sat recording devices to 50 hours.

IF the choice is bring out an undersized device or get sued into oblivion by the RIAA or have them refuse to re-up your contract I think sirius and XM dont have too many options...
