Orbitcast and Satellite Radio TechWorld are reporting that SIRIUS has filed with the FCC to launch repeaters in Alaska and Hawaii.

The proposed sites are in:
  • Anchorage, AK
  • Fairbanks, AK
  • Juneau, AK
  • Honolulu, HI

finally! my parrents will be happy... although judging by the strength of the repeater here in jacksonville, repeaters only in honolulu, it will not beneift any other islands other than oahu.

Although, I must confess that after reading the title ...my first thought that came to mind was regarding SIRIUS bringing Vacation back. False hope.

Probably so, but the repeaters can be very powerful in the 2.3 GHz band.
For example, the original XM repeater for Boston was over 30,000 watts ERP.
With the high-gain home antenna that Sirius now ships with receivers it will be a very good service, just put the antenna on your roof and you're golden.
