Default SIRIUS finally gets in the spirit

Stigma of using 'Merry Christmas' disappearing

Retailers across the country have begun to swing back towards a traditional Christmas. Team members at Target and Wal-Mart are now free to greet customers with "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Kwanzaa". Even holiday juggernaut Macy's acknowledged that there's a marked effort to endorse the religious meaning of the season.

SIRIUS is the latest company whose heart grew three sizes today when they announced the most diverse lineup of Christmas music to date.

Starting on Thanksgiving day, enjoy three different Christmas channels, ranging from holiday hits, to country to classical.

SIRIUS HOLIDAY (Starlite 2) – Holiday hits mixed with selected traditional favorites as sung by Nat “King” Cole, Paul McCartney, Bing Crosby, Elton John, Frank Sinatra, Mariah Carey and many more, plus SIRIUS listeners’ holiday messages and greetings from Santa Claus himself.

CHRISTMAS COUNTRY (The Roadhouse 62) – Heartfelt versions of holiday favorites by country music’s biggest stars, including Martina McBride, George Strait, Alabama and Garth Brooks, in addition to some newer country holiday songs that are sure to become classics.

CLASSICAL CHRISTMAS (SIRIUS Pops 86) – Traditional holiday music from the Renaissance to the modern day, including performances of Christmas carols and seasonal classics by the world’s leading orchestras, choirs and opera stars, along with, of course, enduring holiday masterpieces such as Handel’s Messiah and Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker.

Nice to see Sirius adding CLASSICAL CHRISTMAS. Nice variety offered this year and looks to be the best so far.

That's great!
Personally, I'd rather see Sirius Holiday on Movin' Easy (or one of the million rock channels for that matter)...but that's just splitting hairs.

I love the fact that these channels which I wouldn't give all that much time to usually will be playing CHristmas music soon That being said, give the "Using Merr y Christmas again" a rest, though, huh. Sirius had these channels last year, expcept for the classical channel.

Thumbs down Not Good Enough!

Why do they have to take over SIRIUS Pops?! Are we going to have to go without "Movie Night" for the duration of this? If they're going to start offering more "traditional" styles of Christmas tunes then they should be taking over one of the Christian channels! Or least take over one of the unnecessary channels (aka "payola" channels) such as Rolling Stones Radio or Blue Collar Comedy instead!

And how come they never play more non traditional adult-oriented and parody/novelty holiday songs?

"Merry Fucking Christmas" - Mr. Garrison (South Park)

"The 12-Days of Guido Christmas" - Ha Ya Doin Boys

"The Hanukkah Song" - Adam Sandler

"The Twelve Days of Christmas" - Bob and Doug McKenzie

"Santa Claus And His Old Lady" - Cheech & Chong

"Christmas in Hollis" - Run DMC (BackSpin maybe?)

"Yellow Snow! Yellow Snow! Yellow Snow!" - Aaron Dodson

"The Twelve Pains of Christmas" - Weird Al Yankovic

"Christmas Wrapping" - The Waitresses

"Christmas with the Devil" - Spinal Tap

"Merry Christmas (I Don't Want to Fight Tonight)" - The Ramones

-or- the many punk rock Christmas tunes out there:

http://www.mistletunes.com/punk.html

And so on and so forth.....

SIRIUS blew a great opportunity yet again.

Oh look, another opportunity for Chad to bitch.

Where would Sirius put music like that? They don't have a channel that is anything close to that genre really.

No, it's another chance for Chad to shed some light on yet another missed opportunity by SIRIUS.

Like I already said...use the Payola channels. Or one of the many rock channels as pointed out be limegrass69. Come on, I'm a huge fan of the rock channels, but I believe SIRIUS could afford to take-over one or two temporarily. Instead, they choose to take-over a channel that has music you can pretty much only hear on that channel. And I don't think anyone would disagree that the more traditional religious-based music (Silent Night, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, etc.) should go on one of the Christian music channels. That a no-brainer, IMHO.
