i buy a new receiver every 6 months or so anyway so it wont bother me that much. i do like the stiletto though, so a new stiletto that can do xm/sirius would be perfect

Stocks rebounding... They must be getting all excited... Sirius - 6 cents, XM down 11.

Yup, I'm thinking the world is ok today...

Well now I'm not sure if I should go ahead with my install this weekend. I'd hate to go out and buy all the stuff, spend my Saturday wiring and activating only to find out there are HUGE changes on the horizon. I think I may wait now.

This merger is NOT going to happen in the current regulatory climate. The more realistic scenario is that one of the companies goes bankrupt and is picked up by a larger company for pennies on the dollar.

This reminds me of the merger talks between Dish and DirecTV a few years ago. Some people will say the regulatory climate has changed since then, but I don't think so.

Merger will not be good news. It would end up in higher prices, and eventually, fewer channels.

IF (and it's a BIG IF) there was a merger, we won't see anything before the end of this year. Enjoy this year, rather than waiting for the perfect time.

Count me on the non-merger bandwagon as well.

If I had to guess, if in fact a merger comes down at some point, I'd expect it to be somewhat similar from a customer standpoint as to the Sprint / Nextel merger.

We'd see something like giving new customers a choice between XM plans and Sirius plans. Then they'd start to roll out radios that are compatible with both as they work on all the back end stuff. Then at some point way down the road both services would end up being integrated together, and probably with different tiered plans, kinda like cable tv. You'll get your "basic" music channels for $12.95, $3.00 extra for the "sports package." Then maybe some other "premium package" for maybe $2.00 more on top of everything else.

At least that would be my guess as to what an XM / Sirius merger would be. Then of course there are the issues that innovation and product development would slow as their focus would become integration and profitability versus trying to lure customers from one service to another.

A merger probably wouldn't be the best thing for the end users of either company in my opinion, although it might make share holders happy. Plus don't forget Clear Channel's ties to XM...I guess they'll still have some sort of presence in the newly merged company, which all of us Sirius users have be shielded from to this point.

As you can see from my earlier post, I don't think this merger is going to happen. But, even if it was anounced today, it would take a long time for it to happen. The regulatory hurdles would take at least a year.

I was a Dish subscriber when it was announced that Dish and Direct were going to merge. It took a long time for the government to finally scuttle the thing.

As a sat subscriber, competition is your friend.

Why are turning away a potential customer? It would be wise to see what happens if there is a merger instead of instantly spending money on some equipment that would be obsolete when it happens. Maybe what you should have done is to tell him to get a subscription for internet radio and then get the portable equipment when the merger happens or not. I could see another reason why most people would avoid getting a satellite radio subscription and that type of attitude is not necessary to draw people into getting a subscription. Insult to purchase does not work.

I'm not turning anyone away...I'm encouraging him (and admittedly, it could have been clearer) to go ahead get Sirius and enjoy it this year! I don't think it makes sense to wait until all answers are available, and the perfect equipment arrives, 'cause that will never happen.

Let me put in terms a terrestrial radio fan like hieian can relate to...Would you put off putting in a new car stereo, knowing that Clear Channel might, some day, sell off your favorite station to somebody else? Lots of HD channels are commercial-free now, do you think it would be wise to see what happens on HD until it is clear that those side channels will never have commercials?

Turning away? He's telling someone that is one the fence and thinking about waiting because of today's rumors to take the plunge. How is that turning away potential customers? The technolgy for dual-platform devices is still being worked on. The technology on the current devices doesn't have the capacity to handle both or much more for that matter. Even if there was a merger, the newly formed company would most likely maintain bothe services separately for a while. The savings will come from corporate overhead, not technology or content, IMO

The competition watchdog folks in Washington will never let it happen. Don't get to concerned even if they do announce a 'planned' merger.
