I hope for the survival of sat radio and that it stays fairly close to Sirius's current format (over XM) in some shape or form. I have never been happier with Sirius's operating style. If the survival means merger then so be it. I will never go back to FM.

Let me put in terms a terrestrial radio fan like hieian can relate to...Would you put off putting in a new car stereo, knowing that Clear Channel might, some day, sell off your favorite station to somebody else? Lots of HD channels are commercial-free now, do you think it would be wise to see what happens on HD until it is clear that those side channels will never have commercials?
This shows how you don't know the difference between terrestrial radio and satellite radio when it comes to technology. Getting a car stereo does not depend on what happens with terrestrial radio stations doing different mergers and sell offs while getting some equipment for the car or portable to access satellite radio does depend on what satellite radio service that you have unless you have a broadband internet set up to access it with a computer. Do some research on terrestrial radio waves and satellite transmission since it seems that you don't have the technical knowledge to know the difference and read your responses before you post them because your responses have some characteristics of the most unwanted person on any message board by your intent to insult individuals like myself and other posters who have the facts to back any response with info outside of this message board and not opinion.

This story started when Testicle radio discovered that Howard and Sirius wasnt going to fail. Its a fake bullshit story that keeps going around and there isnt any truth to it IMO. It keeps people from buying it when they think the industry is unstable. Why do you think nobody with any authority in the satrad business ever says anything. Neither side has ever even admitted to talking about it.

OK, hieian, I'll try to be more civil and less snarky.. Explain to me again why spending $300 to enjoy a satellite radio station (which might go away), is sooo different from spending $300 to enjoy at terrestrial radio station (which might go away)? Is it because the $300 terrestrial radio will still be able to get lots of stations I don't care about even if my favorite station changes formats/ownership/etc? What if I buy an HD tuner, and the side channels I enjoy get cancelled? Is that in any way analogous?? Is there some sophisticated technical reason related to radio waves that I'm missing?

The reason I tend to respond rudely to posters like you, is that you don't get it. I don't go onto other discussion boards and insult people by telling them that spending their money to get HBO is dumb, even though it's not worth it to me. I don't go onto other discussion boards and insult people by telling them that spending their money to get ESPN is dumb, even though it's not worth it to me. I don't go onto other discussion boards and insult people by telling them that spending their money to get whatever entertainment stuff they are into is dumb, even though it's not worth it to me. You do.

Unless there's some more news, I see no merger announcement anyway.

I dont see this going down....why would Sirius and XM merge when Sirius can buy XM 'on sale' in another year or two? This stinks of stock price manipulation IMO.

If there is a merger, and I certainly hope there is, both services would likely stay live and simulcast the exact same programming from day one and stick to it for a good long time. This has the unfortunate disadvantage of keeping both streams on the air thus limiting bandwidth for a unified system with higher sound quality.

The first casualty of this merger would certainly be Opie & Anthony. all decate duplicates, on so on.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. In the end, a unified satellite delivery system with decent SQ has a much better shot at competing with terrestrial analog or digital systems. Let's face it, in today's environment, we have little complaints about signal drops and that combined with SQ would be a great selling argument!

Does XM have a lifetime plan? Regardless, how would it the Sirius subscribers with a lifetime subscription be affected?

I would love to see them merge, but I agree I doubt it will happen.

I don't like the idea at all right now. What Sirius will get are the commerical filled music channels, which I think XM is contractual obligated to have no matter what due to Clear Channel. It's a slippery slope from there. I really hope it doesn't happen for a long while!
