Being a dual subscriber, it will be interesting to see how this eventually pans out.

If a merger occurs, this is what I THINK will happen RE radios.

XM/Sirius will not issue new radios to millions of people or force users to purchase new ones. They will cherry pick the channels from both services and come up with a lineup. That channel lineup will be statcasted to both XM and Sirius radios, so each radio type (XM & Sirius) will receive the same channels.

More commentary, mostly negative...but I love that this article quotes Siriusbackstage!
http://www.marketwatch.com/news/stor...0F942FC8C11%7D As of Noon EST, it is the most read article at CBS Marketwatch!

Here's a link to Ben's original post that is quoted:http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum...ad.php?t=92795

I am adamant about this. If the day comes that XM and Sirius merge, it will also be the day they loose me as a subscriber. I WILL not pay for anything that ClearChannel is even remotely involved with.

If Sirius can oust clear channel then I would consider sticking around, but since I doubt that would happen, its been a nice 4 or so years.

IF I am not mistaken, Cheap Channel (I worked for them many moons ago)is leaving the radio business, which should should help all radio. I will agree that it would be hard to support a company that has Clear Channel anywhere near it, but since Clear Channel is, in theory, going away, this would be a nice move.

Thumbs up

If a merger does happen, it would put satellite radio on a much more competitive stance with the rest of the (radio) industry. I do think however, that Sirius is in a good position to carry on, and pull AHEAD of XM if a merger does not happen, and be highly prosperous. That puts Sirius in the driver's seat in terms of dictating who would run and manage the company, (Karmazin) and how the programming changes would occur in any deal.

Monopoly is only when there is no competition...which is EXACTLY why Ma Bell is coming back. Cellphones, Voice over IP, yelling are all "land line" alternatives which are considered COMPETITION.

Sirius is not XM's only competition. If anything they "help" each other define the term "satellite radio". Ipod, Napster like downloading, net streaming, 1000s of MP3 players, FM, AM are Satellite radio's competition.

They will merge when people pull their heads out of their asses and actually use thier brains before they comment.

Sirius and XM offer products/services that are unique to anyone else. In that aspect there is no competition. There is no technology or no service that allows you to get in the car in New York and Drive to LA and listen to Hard Attack the whole way without commercials. NOTHING. Then let you change the channel whenever you want. The FCC licensed this spectrum the way they did so there would be competition. I hope that if they do merge the FCC breaks the spectrum and lets someone else in. Imagine a company like Microsoft that owns the WHOLE FM spectrum and only produces the content they want on all channels. Or imagine if there was only one on-line service allowed for all MP3 players. SO I hope they (FCC) stop the merger or allow the merger to go then free up spectrum for someone else. Why does one company have to own the entire DARS spectrum?

Talking reevee69 is right

I'm sure reevee69 is talking about competition between two satellite providers. A single provider would soon become lazy about giving subscribers much more than the bare minimum.

So, should we start taking bets now on when the next bullshit rumor will surface?
