Default New SIRIUS Show Celebrates Texas Music

“Deep in the Heart of Texas with Dallas Wayne” features Lone Star State artists

NEW YORK – January 18, 2007 – The best music from Texas can now be heard nationwide every week, in a new SIRIUS Satellite Radio program that showcases established and up-and-coming artists from the Lone Star State.

The new program, Deep in the Heart of Texas with Dallas Wayne, features such Texas music legends as Bob Wills, Ray Price, and Willie Nelson, as well as the latest breaking artists on the Texas scene.

Deep in the Heart of Texas is the place to hear outstanding artists who are known for their Texas roots and sound, including Lefty Frizzell, Dixie Chicks, Jerry Jeff Walker, Joe Ely, Kelly Willis, James McMurtry, Billy Joe Shaver and many more. The show will also feature live performances and artist interviews.

Musician and radio DJ Dallas Wayne hosts the show from the “live music capital of the world,” Austin, Texas, on commercial-free Outlaw Country, channel 63. Deep in the Heart of Texas with Dallas Wayne airs on Saturdays from 8 pm to 12 midnight ET, with a re-broadcast airing on Sundays from 12 midnight to 4 am ET. Created by “Little Steven” Van Zandt, Outlaw Country on SIRIUS is a sanctuary for the freaks, misfits, outcasts, rebels and renegades of country music.

wbcn is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Full Time

Sirius needs a FULL TIME channel like this...not just a weekly show, but I guess this is a step in the right direction.

Sirius doesn't need any more FULL TIME speciality channels.

How can you say we don't need any more specialty stations? Isn't this one of the reason I subscribe? If I had to listen to mediocre top 40s day in and day out or only pick up morning talk shows...I wouldn't be paying money for Sirius.

I think a Texas Country station would be wonderful. There are definitely enough artists to fill playlists.

What if it wasn't strictly Texas Country, but non-Nashville country? There are plenty of bands out there who don't fit the Nashville mold but still play night after night and fill bars and clubs. While we can easily identify Jason Boland, Charlie Robison, Cory Morrow, Reckless Kelly, Robert Earl Keen, Bleau Edmonson, Roger Creager, Phil Pritchett, OCMS, and on and on and on... There are other bands not as closely identified with the Texas Country genre (like Wayne Mills Band of Alabama and others).

I think it would be a great idea. I can't make sure to hear the new music on Sunday nights. I would love to listen to the channel at work or whenever I could catch it.
