Unhappy "Antenna Not Detected" on my Starmate Replay

Hello... This evening, I began having problems with my almost-2-year-old Starmate Replay (got for Christmas 2005) that I've never had. Namely, the signal began flaking out for no apparent reason, culminating in it dropping out entirely and displaying an "Antenna Not Detected" message. It was like that for much of the way home from work... it would dart around from three bars to one bar, to the dreaded "X", then back and forth. From reading around this forum, I figure the problem is one of these three things:
1. Need a new antenna/wire;
2. Need a new cradle/car kit; or
3. The radio has just reached the end of its useful life (around 2 years).
From your studied opinions, which would be the most likely answer? I have tried jiggling the antenna plug around, but it hardly helped any. For what it's worth, it all started with unexplained static (i.e. not caused by any signal interference on my chosen FM frequency) in the sound output. Thanks very much for any answers you can give.

I'd recommend trying a new antenna to see if that is the problem. Since the Starmate Replay doesn't use a cradle, it's either the antenna or the tuner that's causing the problem. Buy from a place with a good return policy in case the antenna doesn't solve the issue. If you need a new tuner you can probably find a Starmate Replay online (ebay would be a good place to look) but you may also consider upgrading to a newer model.

As for your static, it is probably completely unrelated to your antenna problem (unless your radio is in the process of a complete meltdown ). What method do you use to transmit the Sirius signal to your car stereo?

I've got a sportster 4 thats just over a year old and I just started having the same problem with the "antenna not detected". I got another antenna for it and that solved the problem.

Let me guess, you had the dot micro antenna? I'm also having issues with my sportster 4 getting no or low satellite signal reception, i'm gonna install a new antenna for it.

Default antenna not detected

9 times out of 10 a sign the radio is going bad. If there was a problem with the antenna it will usually give you NO ANTENNA error or ACQUIRING SIGNAL, You could take your radio to a best buy, circuit city or radioshack and have them plug it into their antenna setup and if it does the same thing there, you know the radio is bad

What is happening is if you are using a cradle for your unit there is a bad connection from the antenna and the cradle. I have had 4 friends who went and took the radio out and put it back in the cradle and that took care of the problem.

If you move your antenna between cars a whole lot, that can cause extra wear and tear on the antenna connection, causing it to break.

It really sucks, but if you have multiple cars that you regularly use, I would suggest buying multiple car kits.

www.tss-radio.com is a good place to buy additional antennas, docks, etc. Plus, the guy there, Taylor, really knows what he's talking about.
