Default Jeep Wrangler SIRPNP2 install, ideas? Suggestions??

I am about to purchase a SIRPNP2 for my 2002 Wrangler with stock cassette unit, no aux and a soft top. I am thinking of trying to install it in between the visors overhead. Has anyone done this? It seems like the best option but I wanted to see what others have done.

I was thinking of trying the FM transmitter first, assuming that I would need to add a cassette adaptor.

As far as antenna placement goes, I am thinking about going with the hood option as shown in some older threads here. Any updates on how well that works?

I have not purchased anything yet. Any and all input is welcome.

Thanks!!!!

Jim

Welcome to Sirius Backstage.

I can tell you that Sirius was one of the best mods I ever did to my jeep.

Why are you wanting to do a plug and play? Is it ease of installation? The ability to take it with you into the house (boombox, home kit)?

The reason that I ask, is as you know the space in a Wrangler is limited. I opted to have a Kenwood Head Unit. I had the tunner installed under the drivers seat, and the antenna on the hood.

I did this because I wanted to guard against theft, and because of the space situation.

One way you could go, if you want to put it between the visors is the Kenwood Universal FM System.

Another way you might want to look into going if you want a Plug and Play is the JVC unit.

Because it is narrower it might fit in the Wrangler better, plus it will have a Boombox, Home and Car Kit.

Good Luck.

On my Wrangler, I put the antenna on top of my sound bar. I also had it at one time on the dash board but had too many drop outs.

If you want to mount your PNP to the windshield with a suction cup, you might consider getting a Brix Streamer. They are big, but it would be easy to see while driving.

I am thinking of plug and play for the reasons you state as well as sequirity. My thought is that if it's mounted overhead that it would be less visible. Also, I would have the option of removing it if I felt the "risk" was higher where I had parked.

As far as placing the antenna on the sound bar goes, I thought the best method was to have it mounted on metal? I must say I have not looked, but I don't think the top of the sound bar is metal. How does that work??

Thanks
With the suction cup mount of the Brix, you can pull the whole unit off the dash (including the cradle) and place it in a lock box in the back or just out of sight which usually worked well with my TJ.

Now as far as needing a metal plane for reception, I never had a problem with the antenna mounted to the sound bar with zip ties.

This is obviously the difference between theory and reality.

As a friend of mine, who was a scientist, once said to me, " Theory is what scientists say when they really mean "Let's pretend!""

I will check out the Brix bfore I buy anything.

Thanks for the input
No problem with it on the rollbar. mine is zip tied to the rollbar with the antenna tail secure under the soundbar bracket. Works fine with the hard top on and you don't notice it at all.

The suction mount that comes with the Streamer can also be used with other PNP's that have the 4 Bolt Amps pattern on the back. They are going to be coming standard with the new JVC unit. They are available individually from www.jltroy.com. It's not on there website yet so you may have to give them a call. They are made by PanaVise aand our customer service department can help you find out where to get them. PanaVise's phone # is 800-759-7535. Ask for Part # 809-AMP.

Thanks for everyone's help. I installed an SIRPNP2 above the rear view mirrow with the antenna installed on the sound bar. It worked out great! You can't even see that it's in there from the outside at all. I'll post pictures in a day or two.

Thanks again!!
